Currently building a JAE 45. Have tried to keep this one on the lighter side.

1/32” skins all around. Divinycell foam core tub sides. Divinycell sponsons with 1/32” skins.
Tub is built, sponsons are built, booms are cut. Weighed as pictured is roughly 1lb 10 oz.

I’ve got some burn through here and there, got a little happy with the belt sander a few times. That’s what paint is for though 😎

Will be posting more pictures as I progress.

Thanks Brad! I would love to have a carbon cowl for this build. I've never worked with it before so I'm sure there will be a learning curve once the mold is finished. My father and I have made molds from 3d printed plugs in the past, this is the one we’re going with for this build.

Nice work !!

SAW boat or heat racing ??
Mark beat me to it Frank lol. I would love for this one to be light enough to grab an oval record but I'm not sure it will be in the end. Provided the changes we've made benefit handling and speed, I'll develop a carbon laminate version and go for a record with it. I believe we can get the hull and setup right, my concern is with the motor, pipe and prop. Dad and I have been successful with gas hull designs and engines, but nitro is an entirely different animal and not exactly in our wheelhouse lol. I know some of the guys who can make em squeal, maybe they will grace a mere mortal such as myself with some knowledge to help me out

TJ want 3D printer do use. And what software do you use to make your print designs?

Sam, we currently use a VORON to print our plugs, and they are designed in Solidworks.

Crazy light and strong materials to work with nowadays,,, years ago when Andy started building riggers out of light ply is when people really started to get away from the old ways of building boats and more towards the new materials coming to market.

I mean 1lb 10 oz was unheard of 10-12 years ago...

I have a .21 Jaguar rigger that I bought and it is like a brick compared to what you are building..

Received my servos yesterday. Went with two sub-micro DS75CLHV for throttle and mixture, the DS150CLHV for steering. 125oz on 6.0V is nuts for how small this servo is. Snagged them from pro modeler. Have most of the hardware in hands now. Laminating the ski sides tonight.

Have the servo mounts ready. Having an old man with a 3d printer and maybe too much time on his hands has it’s perks 😎

Got some time in the shop last night and built the ski. Big shoutout to Brian Blazer for letting me pester him on his lunch break and burn some components out for me. 1/16” with G10 bottoms. Went together flawlessly.

Waiting on some driveline components from the lone star state 😎 Hoping I can get this thing in the water around the end of the month.

Engine rails are up next.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this thread. Buttoned up the JAE 45 build over the last few months. Initial testing was very promising. Fighting fuel delivery at the moment, had some air in the line and the tank seam busted through the break in session.

The boat came in at 5lbs 10oz less fuel. Working on a cowling plug this week. It’s very free on the water, handles great and turns well. Need to make a few tweaks here and there but overall I’m very pleased with how the boat turned out. Will be getting some paint on it soon and will hopefully have it ready for the Indy cincy race for fall.

The carb shield is a piece of G10 with a 3d printed scoop. Plan on using the Banshee cowling for this build. Lots of bondo and sanding in my future.
