So excited to see the Winston Eagle Lobster is back breathing and in action !! After I destroyed the cowl of the Lobster, before I even got to the Nats in Va, back in 2017. The Lobster set on the shelf for a couple of years. As I looked at it day after day, I decided in 2019, to give the Lobster to Duke Morja, at that time a Badger Model Boat Club member from Kenosha, Wi. Below is a old post in conversation with John Finch. Also at the end of that conversation, is a short trailer of the Lobster in testing action. This is a small pond and can't wait to see it in action on it's second race for this year, in Johnston City, Il. on Oct.3 and 4.

Thanks Mr. Finch. That's exactly why I took this project on. The bad rap the real 89 U-10 Winston Eagle "Lobster" took, and yes! I know it was a failure !! and the whole project was scrapped. But, I believe that this design and type of hull for a 1/6 Gas Scale could prove to be petty awesome, "DON'T KNOW TILL YOU TRY", So, long story short I decided to build the M L Boat Works wood kit, and boy this became a project and a half. After talking to some that have ran the RC Version of the "Lobster" and taking a lot of their advise to heart ( thanks Wes Ellet ), I took the time to studied the wood kits design and pondered on that for a long time.

Also read a lot of forms as to what was being said and all where petty much the same : Blow overs and the hull slows down in the turns or have to slow it down to turn !! But, all agreed that it was fast on the straights. Around that time, I had been building the M L's rc version of the 93 Winston Eagle ( not the Lobster ) for a friend from the Badger's Boat Club and learned a lot off that kit. For that reason I made some changes to the "Lobster" boat kit.

The first major change: was the Air Ram section, that joins the sponsons to the hull. This was modified by changing the angle of attack to the Air Ram, Lowing the front an 1/8" and raising the rear an 1/8" and also taking 3/16" off from the highest part of the Rams top air foil and fathering it out to the ends ( on top only ).

The second change: was the front canard and flap sections following the same principle as the first change !! 1/8" down in front and 1/8" up at the rear using the hulls side horizontal center line as a guide.

The third change: was to stiffen the back of the hull starting at the stuffing box area to the transom and eliminate any or all twisting of the hull. this would cause havit to any hull, especially in turns.

The last change: was that I modified the bottom of the front sponsons to match the bottom shape of M L's rc version of the 93 Winston Eagle, it has a step towered the inside of the sponsons

John, ran the "Lobster" yesterday and it looks very promising, stayed on the water and really turns good at high speed, better than I had anticipated. Made small trim changes to the strut and turn fin and will stay there till we hit a race, conditions all ways change at races. Duke from the Badgers Boat Club, took a short video frist time it ran on the water, just don't know how post it on here. Thanks John and Happy Racing.

Here's Duke testing the Lobster, with Al Archer on the lens !!

Thanks for your hull updates. I too love the lobster hulls.Ive had a 1/8 version that needs cut apart and re adjusted. Ive also thought the boat in 1/6 scale would make a great 1/6 gas scale and really enjoyed your video. Looks like the boat rides and turns better than the real one did! After your done racing and feel your done with the hull Dont shelf the giant.PM ME. name your price and ill come get her! JOE (MAN, THAT BOAT IS COOL)

Update, the race at "RIPTIDE THUNDERBOAT SHOWDOWN" at St, Anne, Il. this last week end, went well for Duke Mordja in "THE WINNER TAKES ALL 1/6 GAS SCALE FINALS" Duke hit the start and never looked back with The Winston Eagle Lobster. Next race will be at Midwest Scale Championship At Arrowhead in Johnston City, Il.. Oct 3-4
Thanks Duke !!

Midwest Scale Championship At Arrowhead in Johnston City, Il.. Oct 3-4

The win was so close, yet so far a-way for the Lobster, Duke did a find job, getting into the finals with the Winston Eagle Lobster. Turned out to be a 5 boat Final Winner Take All, after, Wes Ellet could not fire up his Oberto. After an almost perfect start, Duke blew the start by a nose and was a lap down right of the bad, well done Duke, there's always next year.
Also, would like to give mention to, Doug Peterson, Doug was diving a hull I built a few years back, the Smokin Joe's. It was Smokin Joe's first race, Doug has not raced for a few years and did a great job staying in the mix. Congratulation to Doug. Looking forward to find racing next year !!

Hey John there was some really good racing that weekend. Also I got a really good picture of the smokin Joe's running out there if that person would like that picture I could send it to their email just get a hold of me and I will send it out to them. I believe I got a picture of the lobster boat as well running. With the Alberto in the background. If you know these guys email let me know. Good to see you at the race. Action Jackson

Thanks Steve, I will e-mail info. I'm sure they would like that, and I will those pics also.
Yes Robert, Aaron does a very good job and knows everyone well along with all the names of each boat and drivers. Great job to all that attended.

Steve, I'd very much like a picture of the Smoking Joes on the water. My E-mail is [email protected]

Wasn't going to race this year but really glad I made it to Johnson City. Top notch people and race.

Also - muck kudos to Stitch for helping me all weekend with my stuff.

Doug

John , I am starting the build of the 1/6 scale winston eagle lobster boat by ML boatworks.

Can you explain to me with drawings the modifications you made during construction.

I do not understand well, I write to you from Italy.

the points explained by you are three.

you write 1
The first major change: was the Air Ram section, that joins the sponsons to the hull. This was modified by changing the angle of attack to the Air Ram, Lowing the front an 1/8" and raising the rear an 1/8" and also taking 3/16" off from the highest part of the Rams top air foil and fathering it out to the ends ( on top only ).

you write 2
The second change: was the front canard and flap sections following the same principle as the first change !! 1/8" down in front and 1/8" up at the rear using the hulls side horizontal center line as a guide.

you write 3
The last change: was that I modified the bottom of the front sponsons to match the bottom shape of M L's rc version of the 93 Winston Eagle, it has a step towered the inside of the sponsons

for courtesy, can you make a drawing before and after modification. thanks
