Measuring the pipe!

Ive got an old CMB 21 LS motor in a 20 mono, and for the life of me, I cant remember how to measure the pipe length on a rear rotor motor with a wrap around header! I think the pipe is too long, so my buddy Go Fast Foley told me a loooonngg time ago! can anyone help me? THANKS!

Think it was center of piston to fat band and add 3-1/2"

There are a few different lengths of headers so you would have to find out which one you have, but a small tape works fine.

Bill,

Mike Z. had a nice 180* header pipe measuring tool when he had
Power Surge Products. I have some downstairs in my 1650 square
foot hobby shop. These worked Very Well and we use them
a lot on our 12 & 21-Hydros with rear exhaust engines. I found:
The Power Surge Products (Pipe Measuring Tool #115 Nova Rossi)
I could make some at school this week if Mike Z. would be OK with that?

I do it by taking a piece of white jacketed solid wire exactly 10" long and mark every 1/4" back to 7-1/2". That works for my 45s and 21s..

go for the pipe measuring tool, so much easier and more accurate than anything else. realitivly cheap, I guess mine was maybe 12 bucks and well worth it

He seems to be asking how to measure the total length.

Unlike rear exhaust being a straight line from glow plug/widest point of pipe, the length of the wrap around header needs to be part of the measurement.

Start from the glow (plug/center of the case) measure the wrap around header to the widest part of the pipe, the wrap around is part of the measurement.

Old post replying for the person who might be googling this question.

I use a pc of fuel tubing to cut to length and simply use that as a base starting point. Flexable so can be used on any header/pipe combo.
