Always run filters , blast with brake clean both ways then blow out and hold up to the light to verify . Do this at every fillup , only takes a few seconds and even when running 7 boats it's no big deal . I use the Dubro filters and like them because even if they have a hint of trash on them they still flow enough in some cases to finish the heat . Works for me.

Brian Spitzer and Stu Barr has gotten me onboard with the Dynamite Pro Fuel Filter, very nice and easy to operate. I have one on my fuel jug, one on pipe pressure and one from Tank to Carb.

You should see the stuff that comes out of the Drums of Nitro when I am making fuel. I use a very fine filter on the nitro. The little white fibers that are in the nitro is unreal after about 2 drums the filters are so plugged up the nitro barely flows threw it.

If I remember right it’s kind of waxy. We always thought it was carried through the refining process from nitro paraffin that nitro methane is a byproduct. Nitro paraffin is a big ingredient in women’s makeup/cosmetics.

Take a plug element out real good, Julian, and you'll wish you had a post fuel system filter. Happened to me! ;)

I have never had a issue with the fuel filters since I have been model boating ever. because I always clean my filters after every run and also I filter the fuel going to the main fuel jug with (3) filters and I also have 2 filters on the line going to the tank when I refuel my boats and I also have a filter from the tank to the needle. That’s good enough for me.

Jerry.. I might be completely wrong on the main source for the build up of fibers in a filter. I know that bean fiber can also build up but I for one did not know that Nitro would ship with out purification. Man.. its cool to learn new stuff..

So this answers some questions for me....

On we go!

I was just reporting what happened to me a couple of weeks back. It does happen. I'm sold

on Beardslee's solution.

To switch to fuel.. I can add to that..

I personally have never had a bad jug of fuel. ..and that.. after 45 years of nitro engines... man that went fast.. I did ruin some MANY MOONS ago when i mixed cool power with sidewinder.. I also saw a guy.. just this summer attempt to use a 15 year old fuel jug with about 20oz in it.. it was full of moisture as it was never closed properly... and looking back.. thats it..

I have had bean fibers build up in a filter when using Red Max years ago and i have had tar balls build up on the plug element (Nitro helis) using VP.. (30% Heli blend).. I have pics of that some place..

In my helis I use a filter on my exhaust because i have seen a blade of grass in my pressure line.. Not sure how it got there but I suspect from putting on the line at some point.

I dont however run my jug line all the way to the bottom of the jug. I leave it up about 1/2in.. after a gallon I dump out the remainder and refill.. or every few gallons. I have run filters on the jug line but dont anymore. I have one filter from the tank to the needle and thats it.. I dont strain my fuel either..

On that note i have not ran castor RC boat fuel in over 15 years but.. my well has run dry on that so its back to castor.. It will run just fine.. I am just not looking forward to the potential bearing issues and plug usage I have avoided for the last 11 of those years.. I have not replaced bearings in any motor in the last 11 years.. I split a case on an OS OB..(LOL)... but have not replaced bearings or burned up pistons and liners... plugs typically last until I decide to toss them... (Bty.. on that note.. I dont oil out with my race plug.. this seems to help too)

In the end.. if you use fuel with castor in it.. I have found it best to check your filter often. And then to Docs post.. dont trust any of them.. when they are new.. give them a good once over.

Thanks Grim,
This happened around 2004. I had never seen the the very small drops in the bottom of a jug before. It is the only time it ever happened. My blended fuel now is so much better. As far as the droplets are concerned it could have been something else than water. It was a brand new gallon. I never had an engine failure or had to replace bearings in an engine that I tore apart and inspected (if used). That includes the many new engines I broke in. So....you broke an OS case? Bumping up the Nitro % a little? LOL. I use a filter between the fuel jug of blended fuel and the tank. Also one between the the boat fuel tanks and needle valve. I did have an engine failure once when a battery went bad in flight. The plane went straight up an then straight down onto a rocky surface at full throttle. The engine did fail to ever start again after that. In fact I don't recall finding all the parts. LOL.

The case was 15 years old..LOL.. that is still my fast back up motor!... it was/is one of the VERY FIRST Top Speed Challenge motors from 2000!
