CMB 90 - Geared or Direct Drive

Really really interesting discussion going on here, whilst also not losing sight of the original question.

I think I'll go with direct drive as the overal top speed there won't be anything in it really and efficientcy isn't a concern as I won't be competing.

And......direct drive is a lot less money and a lot less trouble......hahaha.....good luck.....

as i know from some friend running here in Europe the 90 size engine, they run a gear with only 1,2:1 and 1,3:1 . So the propeller turn a little less than the engine. The reason is that the competitionboats have a better acceleration in the corner . With the smaller engine 75 they use higher reduction 1,5:1 and the 20 size use 2:1 reduction. The bigger propellerdia has higher acceleration trust the engine rev up easy the tune pipe can be one with a shorter cone with higher power as it rev up moore easy.
@Dave and most of the FSR endurance race boats use a gear drive with submerged propellers i know your boats like history , Werner Woyzek is my friend , you know him from Valerino Modelshop in Munich.
