As grown men and women arguing over DSM Vs MHz Teams, and Start windows. I’d figure I’d shine a little light in our “ Hobby.” We are all missing the bigger picture. Getting the youth involved. These kids didn’t get mad when there boats died, or missed the start. They where just happy to be there and laughed the whole time. Even talked smack to each other before hand. If you guys wanna fix something. Get more kids involved. It makes the races so much better to see these kids just have fun and run boats. I hope the Carlton’s don’t mind me posting there pictures.

Sam, I totally agree with you on this.
That said, what makes if so much fun for the kids is they haven't gotten the "I HAVE TO WIN TO BE SOMEONE" bug yet. Many of those that race seem to need a title, be it this race winner or this season champion. The kids don't care, they just know they're the one driving the boat and getting a kick out of it. It's actually too bad more of the adults don't think the same way

Good stuff.. love to see this..

There is RC boating.....
and
RC boat racing..........

There IS.. a difference! A little disturbance in the force now.. could just save these young guns a bunch of frustration later.

3 Generations. This was Max's 5th birthday 8 years ago. He ran that tunnel at the pond this past weekend. I looked at Jay and said "all the competitive boats we have, kind of like the kid who gets a Xmas present and winds up playing with the box more than the toy.
Max has 5 years on the drivers stand now.

No Sam thats fine so both girls are 8 years old and young Payton is 6. We are just glad they enjoy coming to the races and hanging out with their dad's. Even Grandpa gets to help out. Its all about teaching them how to control their boats instead of having them being forced to race against guys and have them get mad when they cut them off. I really appreciate the Riptide club for allowing us to start a novice class to teach these kiddos. Thanks for your help that weekend Sam, its always good to see you guys.

Payton was helping me on the judges stand pushing the start button on the digital clock. Him and were making the call for boats being over/or good start. That was fun. Try that sometime with a 6 year old.

After him and I were working together (I also let him tell the racers they were going on the clock on the mic. a few times) being 6, his need to push the button made our working relationship come to an end.

Reluctantly, I had to have Josh take Payton from judges stand. All I can say is do miss having youngsters around at my house. Never a dull moment.

Glad to see younger people at the pond.

New boaters needed at any and all ages. I've offered two 35 year old friends of the family the very minimal entry cost of fuel only to expirence rc boat racing in 67 hydro. We have a deep inventory in this class. If and when we all show up, we will be entering on two frenquencies for training purposes only. Don't be upset when we win 1st - 4th...just teasing.

This should easily grow 67 hydro to 3 heats at Brandon and D3 races, for 10-12 are showing now. This introduction is to see if they catch the excitement of racing. Then they can choose different classes on their dime, and our support equip will always be available to them.

Who out there has the combination of older yet good equipment and an acquaintance who has noted some interest, but they just need that first heat behind them?

Respectfully,
MG

Yup get them started young and the hobby will thrive for years to come If Its a family hobby

The key will be keeping them interested once boating has to compete with things like their friends and phones. And I hate to say it but we’re probably going to have to look at ways to come up with more “lower cost” classes like Thunderboat. I can easily afford it but even my eyes water at $40/gal fuel and $600 nitro engines.

Our family is three generations into nitro boat racing. I found that these simple suggestions worked for youngsters and teens.Let them start in a class that is age appropriate, give them their own boat, teach them to do general maintenance on their boat, keep your hands off the transmitter unless they are out of control, don't holler at them on the drivers stand. These simple things will give them pride of ownership and confidence to keep racing. I am sure that a person can put their kid into a good used boat or RTR for less then the costs related to a cell phone or video game system. Attached is a photo of my son Mike and grandson Rob with his first trophy in B-Mono at age 5.
