Anyone know where I might be able to find a fiberglass cowl for
the Thriftway Too U62 in 1/8th scale? Its the only thing holding
me back from building this beauty!

Thanks,
Bill Diedrich
Ventress, Louisiana

Yes been looking for one for several years, looks like I might have to bite the bullet and make
a mold myself. Have discovered better pictures of the Thriftway Too and have a better idea
of what the total cowl is shaped like. Of all the pictures I have found online of the 1/8th scale
model I am sure someone has a mold for this cowl. I have the Newton drawings full plans set so
with that and other pictures I have found of the boat and the one that was being restored, I should
be able to make a close representation of the cowl I need to build this model.

hope these help.

check out this cowl from RCBC

That's a boat I have always wanted to build (orange/white version) but never got around to building a plug. Love to have a Thriftway and Bardahl boat.

When I was 7 years old I won a coloring contest for my age group through a kid's show by a goofy, accordion playing Norwegian fella named Stan Borson (who had two Basset hounds on the show named Slo-Mo and No-Mo) who was sponsored by Thriftway. What I won was a ride in the Thriftway Two jammed in beside Bill Muncy who gave several rides to kids that day. I don't think we went over planing speed, maybe 50-60 mph but it was the ride of my life with my biggest hero.

Thanks, I'll take the measurements and see if it could be modified to work and look the part, would have
to modify the fin for sure, but as the picture shows, it looks to be a little on the low side overall.

I have a couple cowls for the Too in 1/8 scale. PM me if you are interested. I also have a mold for both 1/8 scale and Gas scale.

Talk about quick. ordered the kit for the Thriftway Too from ML Boatworks on
Tuesday the 6th and got it today via FedEx Ground, Many Thanks Mike, now will
have every thing I need to get this long awaited project underway, once the cowl
arrives.

Looking for a side view of a round bow scale unlimited to see the type (standard or extended) and position of the
strut from the transom...……..or is this "Top Secrete" information LOL

From what I’ve been told is the modern boats with wings had extended out props. The older ones where under. I would go with keeping the drive dog under the boat. What organization are you running in?

Sam's post is pretty much correct. For the most part if it's piston powered (other than the modern U-3) keep the prop side of the drive dog even with or slightly behind the transom.

I think the best strut to go with is going to be the extended strut with a flat bottom on it,
like I did on my (7207 hull) '80 Bud U-12 I built from a Troy McIntyre hull, as the Thriftway Too
is a 3-point type of hull.
Thanks, Sam & Don

I figured it would be great as I can position it a little farther forward from the transom and as
the Thriftway Too is going to be an FE boat, I can build a small watertight box around it to keep
the hull interior dry, as I plan on making the motor, ECU & battery compartment totally water
tight.

Nice. Have fun. Post build pics. I’d post mine but there’s a couple on here that likes the critique a little too much.
