Just wondering if I could get some advice. I was striping some wires from old Futaba servos to make a switch and on some of the black (negative) wires, there is a black coating on the wires and solder does not want to stick to it.

What is this black coating and how do I go about to remove it (if you can) so that I can solder the wires.

Many thanks.

Yep.. its bad.. the lesson here is to NEVER leave a battery connected to the system when not in use...

I always unplug my packs from the system when the boat is parked for the day.

Toss it, the black is caused bt leaving the battery connected for a long time and you cannot clean the wire to make the solder stick and if it does stick the connection will not hold up.

If you HAVE to make it work just lay the stripped back wire on a piece of metal or other hard surface and use a piece of red scotchbrite or bronze wool to run over the wire to remove the "black wire disease " . Turn the filaments of wire till you get it all . It will now solder once again .
