I am building a JAE 45 GT, this is my second outrigger build. What is the best way to mount the turn fin to the sponson? I am not sure if the sponson doubler will offer enough strength for the turn fin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I use STAND OFFS, that can be gotten at McMaster Carr. Various threads 2/56 to 8/32 and various lengths

They are octagonal in shape

I chuck them up in the lathe and cut grooves around them

Use slow cure epoxy.

Never had one pullout in a 21 to 101 twin

I make my own with 3/8 aluminum rod. Just tap the end. I cut some grooves in the dowl so it does not pull out. I do like Doc idea. Same as mine. If you dont have access to a lathe, go Doc route and just use a grinder to cut some dimples around the dowl. Here is a link. https://www.mcmaster.com/92510a611 The only problem I can see is with the .140 #6 hole size you are over .004 bigger than the 8/32 tap hole. Should be good thou. Could always go up to 10/32 if that dont work.

Found some that are pre threaded with 3/8 OD. Only 1" long thou. https://www.mcmaster.com/93330a622

I built a Warpath gas rigger and three, 1/2" oak dowels were epoxied into the sponson, the centres drilled out with a 9/64" drill, and hangar bolts screwed in, allowing the turn fin to be mounted and 3 nuts fasten it against the sponson.
This was my first rigger, and I too have considered buying the JAE 45 short kit from Zippkits. But because no instructions are included, I have been apprehensive. Did you get a hold of some instructions to build your kit?

Don't let the instruction thing stop you. If you need help I would be glad to help by email or phone

Just print the instructions for the JAE 21, close enough. I didn't get any instructions for the JAE 91/101 kit I got and have had no problems building it.

This is my second outrigger. The Jae 33 was the first one. The 45 isnt far off from the 33. So far the build has been pretty straight forward. I agree with mike, don’t let the lack of instructions stop you.
