I was just looking through the record books today, and saw the GX-480 in the 1/3, 1/4 and straight aways records, with Driver Rick Grim, and of course I'm sure Paul Renna was a part of it, as he, and others have really helped move this tunnel lineup forward. Congrats to all of you guys. Ultimately, this got me thinking of the person who had the biggest hand in the original design, the other "L" in "L&L Special, Dick Loeb. His incredible forward thinking, that not many got to see, put this design on paper, and here it is 9 years almost to the day later, and this gas tunnel is still on top! Amazing. This was probably one of the boat designs Dick was most proud of. He loved tunnels, and when Buddly Lowe first put the prototype on the water in Charleston, SC, it just clicked. Keep up the good work all of you.

Nice looking boat. Can't wait to finish mine up. Congrats to Rick on setting the records. Good to hear the back ground on who put their thoughts to paper.

That was the Prototype Mark. I initially made a mold of the DPI 48" tunnel cowling, and we put it on that boat as it was all I had. A guy in south africa had the current style cowl, lost his molds in a autoclave fire, and I asked permission to make new molds from the cowling I had. That was the day everything changed.

I was wondering if that was Rick's boat. Doesn't match the paint on the youtube vid of him running SAW.

I'm in the process of building two GX-480's. One will be mine to race with. The other will be Troy Hammons. He has a few gas records already and wants to try a tunnel. Hoping to have them both done within a month.
