"58 years of building high performance." LOL. You have never built anything Dennis!! You are only capable of slightly "MODIFYING" what other people have designed & built.

Jim Allen

I knew you would be along Jim.
You have no clue what I have done! Are you still trying to improve those obsolete QD HR/HT for gas? How 'bout you over-engineer something for the gas records ... you know, something that actually performs on the water. Try helping these guys with something they can actually use now.

My apologies Eric.
I was attempting to offer useful content. But a lot of times the bushwackers are just waiting. Sorry it went like this.

Don, if you are going to dispute my replies, don't quote a small section that's out of context. It does you, or anyone reading the info no favors. I specifically said "Zenoah" in referencing fuel octane. If I was talking about QDs, CMBs, or any other purpose built marine gas engine, I would have addressed those accordingly.

Boy Dennis you get chaffed real easy don't you? All I said was not entirely true specifically directed at exactly what you said in your last sentence, hence only quoting that piece. The only reason I bothered to say anything about what the octane does is how so many people don't even know and assume more is better. Yup, you addressed Zenoah then closed saying "the extra octane does nothing good or bad for these motors, it's just in there". It's been proven plenty of times that regular 87 octane in the typical Zen actually performs better than higher octane fuels so yes it does matter. That cheap stinky regular gas will work the best.

And you are spot on about the smell, I probably hate it more than you do.

BTW- I don't know what the rift is between you and Jim Allen but both of you need to cool your jets ASAP.

Although I have been racing boats for over 30 years, I have never owned a gas boat. I recently purchased an SLR Missile. What should I expect? Any tips? Thanks
Eric get with Scott Liddycoat as he did most of the development for Joe. He's a good friend of mine so if you want his contact info shoot me a p/m.

Don believe whatever you like about fuels for Zenoah type engines. And then ask Lohring Miller about the extensive testing he did. Take it or leave it, we all have choices.

... we need to cool our jets ASAP? Sounds like you're chafed there Don LOL.
Relax; it's only a toy boat forum. Say hi to your buddy for me, I'm out.

Dennis- I too know what works from extensive testing, been doing this for a long time too. You're a smart guy and you've brought some good things to the table BUT you seem to get really riled up whenever someone doesn't agree with you.

As far as telling you and Jim to cool it that is coming from me as an admin on this site. I'm tired of getting complaints about you two. End it or spend some time on the sidelines........ your choice.

Personal attacks like post #21 and many others, going on to other sites which he knows I'm not on, and slamming me there ( in the past ), is why I retaliate ... I don't quietly put up with it. And he is not used to ANYONE questioning him. He doesn't like it! LOL, and I get comments saying it's entertaining! Well, whatever it is, we have to keep Jim happy. So don't worry about the sidelines; post #27, I'm out.

Sam, if you had thought about it instead of just reacting, you could have said Bye "Denise".

But instead I guess Felicia realized why they named you "Junior".

Hello Eric, after watching my brother build his SLR to his first race with it, what to expect? Smiles and a great running boat. I noticed my brother reinforced few joints in the sponsons with some wood Stick, and Fiberglass the underside and inside of the floor where the seam meets in the middle. I believe it is because his previous Zipp Thunderboat had stress cracks forming there. We run White gas "Crown" with 9 oz Quiksilver oil and have had no issues. In my opinion I believe the setup and driving is whats winning the races rather than which gas to use, again my opinion . My brother Tied for first two weeks ago in the Thunderboat class with his SLR before the weather took a turn on us. Have fun, this is a great hobby, and you will enjoy this boat.

Besides the urinating contest posts on fuel so far, reinforce every joint on the hull where it's just plywood-to-plywood joints otherwise it can blow apart. Use some sticks there and probably some carved aileron stock for the nose. I went around and around with Joe on this matter but I'd rather have strength even if I gain a few ounces in the process. I've already heard of the nose separating on some of them.
You're going to have to work on the sponson tops also as the fit is terrible so you're going to have to cut some wedges out of them to get them to fit properly. Wood can't do compound curves well. You'll see what I mean when you get to those steps.
As far as fuel goes, you're going to run a stock Zenoah if you're going to race it so no fancy fuels are needed. I run Coleman camp stove gas with 8 oz. of a good synthetic 2-stoke mix per gallon. I get the fuel at Menard's which has better prices than Wal-mart and Lucas oil.
Please tell me you did not do all that to a T boat
