I posted these photos. I think it my help. The upper shaft is for cutting threads. The lower shaft moves the carriage. Only one lever should be engaged at a time! The thread cutting shaft could use a special dial, which allows the lathe to cut some inch or metric threads without changing the head stock gears, providing a 27 tooth gear is used in the head stock

that is one beautiful machine !! and i love the taper attachment ! id love to know what that bar is bolted onto the carriage but my issue is circled here in the picture.. the leadscrew doesnt spin with the output of the gear box... im wondering if there is something broken / stuck / missing in the black part of the shaft..

I bought this lathe "as is" at a machine dealer

Joseph,

The round bar supports the custom stainless coolant nozzle that came from a Clausing tool room lathe. It is very difficult to cut steel efficiently without coolant. The coolant is NOT water based, but oil based. That round black sleeve should move forward & rearward. It will engage a pin that will cause the treading shaft to rotate. It could have been sheared off by some "CHICKEN HEAD", who attempted to single point a thread while cutting towards the headstock.

Jim, thanks for that... please feel free to share any more pictures of your machinery ! Love it ! i have a couple lathes ... Southbend's and Rockwell Delta's this is my first Emco.. seems like a nice lil machine ! and i love that German Green !!

Joe,

This morning I made a partial list of some of the key items in my tool room. I'm sorry to say, I do not have enough spare time to do this. You can be assured that any & every tool found in a very well equipped tool room would be found here. If you have questions about any particular type of manual tool, just ask.

Joe,

Did you notice the custom way wipes added to the carriage, the cross feed, the compound & the taper attachment. These are made of a special grade of 1/4" thick felt. They prevent anything from getting between the surfaces of the ways. I also added oil fittings after grinding the ways of the cross feed & the compound. The 5-C collet adaptor seat that fits in the #5 Morse taper of the head stock was reground with a Themac Tool Post Grinder. It now reads .0000" of runout. I have modified the seal on the back end of the lathes spindle to prevent any oil leakage when running the spindle at high speeds.

20190102_114225.jpg Jim, looks very nice... im going to make custom stainless steel way covers and remove the compound, replacing it with a solid tool post to increase rigidity.

here is a picture of my super 11 as i purchased it..20190102_114225.jpg

There was no lead screw and it was missing a few other parts ... I was able to find a leadscrew on ebay... and purchased the rest of the parts from emco... I have yet to plug it in... the motor is 3 phase.. but I'm not sure if it is 440 / 220, or strictly 440 .. so I may have to buy a new motor... Fortunately I have a couple other lathes. Although it would be a priority if i didnt...

I like the pantograph behind the lathe. I used to have a few for cutting carbon electrodes for my EDM machine.

Hey Bob, unfortunately i sold that a couple months ago... it was " new old stock " Famco ( gorton ) bought by a model maker in the 80's and sat mothballed for 30 & years in the factory basement... She went to a good home tho..

Bought 2 bridgeport CNC's so i figure i can use them to engrave / mill anything :)
