Hey guys,
I just got back from a run, and I wanted to mention some observations about running my K&B in cold weather. If you wanna add to this, feel free!
I have an older K&B w/ the 12mm crank. I ran Byron car fuel (20%) with castor added in, which probably brought the nitro down to 15%.
The Temp outside was about 35 degrees F (1`C) and the water was about the same.
I ran a McCoy MC-59 plug and I was very happy with it. Also, I completely disconnected the water cooling. My engine NEVER came back hot. Based on what I know of two stroke engines, they like heat. I don't mean meltdown, but hotter engines do tend to run better. Consider the K&B SS. Air cooled for a reason? HMMMM.
So that's a little piece of info you might want to add to your memory bank. I know of a few people who were having trouble out there in the cold, so I thought I'd chime in.
Now, it didn't run perfect. Here's where I need help.
I would hold it wide open for a few seconds, then let off, and it would stall if I cut off the throttle alot. But, before you say I was lean:
Before I got to full speed, I putted around at mid throttle and the engine sounded gargly, and when I opened it up, it didn't want to pick up speed smoothly or quickly (indicating rich condition, right?). So what should I do to get a smoother run...
Thanks
JT
