    OS 21xm v1 question

Yep, it’s seeming like this may have been a bit of a lemon... oh well, it’s risky buying these used. Maybe this lower will be a good candidate for brushless.

    OS 21xm v1 question

piston diameter is 16.6mm. sleeve diameter at top is 16.5mm. Also, what is this mod in the pic? Trying to make a bit more space in the crankcase?

    OS 21xm v1 question

There is probably some very slight variance in the dimension, but can anyone measure the diameter of the sleeve top and piston?

    OS 21xm v1 question

Nice to see someone else around here still messes with these! Yeah, the crankcase definitely looks like it has been run, chipped fin and small nicks and scratches. But there is no sign of nitro fuel inside, doesn’t smell like fuel at all. Very confusing. Could this problem occur if someone were...

    OS 21xm v1 question

Cranked it over with a socket wrench, assuming the starter can turn it, I think it’s ok...

    OS 21xm v1 question

this is the spot where it gets stuck and I can’t push any further(without putting in a vice or something crazy). Is the chipped cooling fin a sign of something bad like overheating?

    OS 21xm v1 question

I took the head off and removed the sleeve, everything seems to be ok, no discoloration or wear marks. Only gets tight at the top of the stroke.

    OS 21xm v1 question

Not sure if anyone saw the 21xm for sale on rcgroups, but I bought it knowing beforehand the seller said it was hard to turn over by hand. I got it today- def. hard to turn over by hand, I’ve had some new KB’s that were hard, but not so hard I was afraid to keep pushing it. Does this seem...

Is it possible to still get a new KB 3.5?

I should mention, I bought a 1.04 gearset from the TT distributor in Germany on ebay. They claim to have 2 more sets. Cost me $41 shipped which is almost what I paid for one of the motors, but looks like it might be the last place on earth with them in stock. In the mail right now, let’s see if...

Is it possible to still get a new KB 3.5?

Heh, my calipers are Harbor Freight specials... The ultra high precision of them requires a lot of juice :)

Is it possible to still get a new KB 3.5?

Wow, you really know your Thunder Tigers! The pin is missing in the busted motor, I already grabbed a steel pin from the machine shop for it. Luckily, I guess, the prop shafts are left hand threaded. Good work on the PTO preservation project! I was thinking the other day how the housings would...

Is it possible to still get a new KB 3.5?

Hah, yeah these tt’s are so much more mechanically interesting than the the other outboards, I guess that’s why I like them! I tracked down a TT distributor in Germany that has quite a bit of spares left, but they’re expensive to get over here. Perhaps if I ever have time I’ll draw up the PTO...
