Thanks Terry - nice description. I understand.
The specific gravity of the components are listed at a reference temperature (or temperature range)... Do you compensate mathematically for the temperature or do you measure with a hydrometer? Or do you mix in a controlled environment?
Thanks...
Great to hear you're doing better. Sounds like you will be able to manage your lung recovery one way or another. Take care and give yourself time to heal. Can't wait to see you - I still have the gas mono Lenny built. It would be fun to chase you around the pond again.

Terry, when I mix fuel I have a 1000 ml graduated cylinder. I start with the oil. For 12% I add to the 120 ml line. Then I add nitro. For 65%, I fill to the 770 ml line. Then pour in methanol to the 1000 ml line. Then stuff a fine mesh screen in the top of a gallon can and pour it in. Repeat...
These forums are awesome. Theres so much experience and knowledge here, and lots of cool boaters willing to share. Thanks - I have several good options on oil now.
I ran the Top Lube full synthetic in my .12 and .20 boats and it seemed great . I added 2% Castor for my .40 mono with Nova .46 wrap around.
I guess that's an advantage of the Klotz Super Techniplate - it contains 20% Castor. So for example, if mixing at 20% oil content, that blend would...
I need an opinion here (and I know there are a million on Oils).
I have been mixing my own fuel for years, using Wold Wide Racing Fuels "Top Lube" at 12%-16% (depending on the engine size). It has served me very well with virtually no wear on the engines and super clean. (65% Nitro).
That...

Yes I would like one to use, and learn about. I have a Boris meter too and I use it but the old school stuff is interesting.
Let me know what you want for it and your PayPal. It's fun running boats learning about this hobby.
Thanks

Oh...ok. That makes me think about the system differently. So you have a regulator on the propane tank and adjust until the magnahelix reads 40?. Then adjust the needle and record reading from the flowmeter.
Does the magnahelix reading change while you're adjusting the needle or stay relatively...
Wow thank you. That's super interesting. Looks like you flow gas through the Flowmeter and then through the Carb. The Magnehelic measures differential pressure (dP) between the pressure in the line and atmospheric pressure. I can see that as flow increases the dP goes down and vice versa. I...
John thanks for the detailed message. Really interesting. A schematic would be great. I'm guessing you flow a fixed (known size) orifice to calibrate, and then go ahead and flow the engine. Wish I was near Alabama.
I think they were called magnehelic flow meters. Does anyone have a schematic of one? I would like to know exactly how they measure differential pressure and record flow. What does the reference gas do?
Got me curious....
Didn't there used to be flowmeters that used a reference gas like propane and then based on the atmospheric conditions would show the flow with accuracy for those conditions? I think the theory was that you could set the flow and it would run the same at sea level as at 4000 ft altitude, cold...
