    Gas pipe heat

"The bottom is not very critical as it is water cooled." I would disagree with this; the bottom is cool from the water outside, but the inside bottom can get hot from the pipe. Perfect senerio for bottom warpage which is the last surface you want going out of true. Use the foil tape on the...

    Bent con rod

Varying amounts of damage can occur when water tries to compress in a cylinder. With engines that are built with strong rods ( ie; Zenoah, RCMK ), the cranks themselves can be tweaked out of faze ( 3 piece - pressed together ). Engines with CY rods are time bombs. If yours swallowed enough water...

    rear exhaust

For any kind of long service life on a gas RE engine, you want a sleeved design for good piston support. Quick Draw and J&G offer those. But you don't see a lot of RE being used for gas, because the side exh. makes as much or more power ( crank rotation to transfer lay-out ), and the port side...

    Throttle linkage

If your end points are set properly (same as any linkage), there is no way a 1/8" flex cable will break operating a butterfly. Haven't even stressed a cable in close to 40 years of using them. A broken piece of 1/8" flex cable on the end of the butterfly shaft will no way require more than the...

    Throttle linkage

Hey Vince. Peter and I (SRI Motorsports) have used direct flex cable throttle (rotary servo to carb) for decades. Before water proof servos were readily available, we would do our own w/proofing. Just be aware that you need a servo with more rotation (digital can be re-programmed) to get full...

    Walbro Carbs

One of the best linkages for those carbs is from Accutech. It's made for QDs using those carbs, but works for other engines as well. The part # is QDTL-100, and sells for $22. Accu-Tech RC Hardware Accessories You may have to do a search for a manifold as I don't bother much with 33s or with...

    Walbro Carbs

Joseph there are Walbro WYK33s and there are clones of the same. The "real" ones have a black colored high needle screw, and the clones are brass. They will both work OK on most gas motors. They do require an external pulse line to be connected from the case/cyld. in order to operate the...

    Walbro Carbs

Most all of the WT Walbros that we use on gas boats have a .625" throttle bore, and a .500" (12.7mm.) venturi ( 257, 644, 929, 771, ect. ). It became very popular and easy to bore out and blend the venturi larger. Most thought that their motors needed more flow from the carb, and it is a money...

    KB 3.5 bearing problem

LOL Very inventive spin I must say. Moisture steams off at 212 degrees. I don't know about you, but my fingers will burn if I stick them in boiling water. But if that's hot enough to mess up your composite cages, you better find better brgs. Carry on guys.

    Bearing installation.

We have been running 6001 in our gas motors (above 20K) for many years. We get the stainless/ceramic/composite cages and use them W/WO double rubber seals depending on the position in the case. The steel brgs. with riveted steel cages can develope a lot of heat and start to break down at very...

    KB 3.5 bearing problem

Carl. Your aircraft story is interesting for sure. I can certainly see why the FAA would not want high temps applied to aircraft assemblies. When thousands of different aircraft mechanics are assigned to work on engines, all with varying degrees of precision, there must be standardized tooling...

    KB 3.5 bearing problem

Carl, I'm not going to change your mind/method, because as I said, guys have done this/been taught this forever. But I would like to know, what are you gaining by putting the brgs. in a freezer? How much do you "think" they are shrinking? Just wondering where the logic is?

    KB 3.5 bearing problem

Not trying to beat a dead horse; Why are we cooling the brg? Presumably to shrink the OD! Do the pre/post freezer measurement. The brg. doesn't change size at all. I'll shut up now!
