You could choose to reinforce the engine compartment with some layers of fiberglass cloth. I choose to do it like this instead. The bottom of the hull us 1 mm plywood. The extra part is 0.8 mm plywood CA glued in place. The triangular braces are chamfered from std square 3 mm pine strips.
