I hate radios! Neutral shift?

Are we talking about your gold case Futaba's? Could it be the steering pot shifted inside the radio? On newer Futaba's there is a "servo view" where you can see if the steering/throttle/mixture/other channel is centered.

I don't know but we could do some asking at Futaba USA.. Radios ware out.. they just do.

The newer system allow you to "calibrate" as well to allow for any center shift or end point shift.

Yup, old gold 3EGX.

And phones are attached to the wall and have those round things you turn with your finger, take off eh!

I think it might be the pots are dirty/worn out (crap, it's only forty years old!). The throttle and rudder are "shaky" and off center, mixture is solid (doesn't get used much).

Maybe it's time finally. What's a good Futaba stick radio these days? Can they all be easily converted to Mode I (throttle on RHS)?

Terry I have a EGX in the boat shop. Pristine. Not converted. Still has the AM module. As you might remember, I had contacted you previously, I was going to do the EGX "update" to the 2.4. A buddy of mine talked me out of it. Swayed me into a new radio. Futaba 4GRS - old school stick radio. Perfect replacement. you'll never look back. Easy to program. Telemetry !!!!! set an alarm to keep from burning anything out. feels exactly the same. The only thing not on the GRS that the EGX has....... the warm up switch.

Other than that the GRS has a ton more features.

TKs jump is larger then most. Mode 1.... but... can be done...

I would also go to a pistol.. no learning a new mode.. just a pistol..

I like the 4GRS and I am very happy with them. Simple to make all the adjustments and the mixture knob is just where it should be.

How about a pistol grip radio Terry?? 🤐 😬

Don't think that's in the cards for me, I've tried a few times and I find it very awkward. 😞

I flew airplanes on Mode I as a teenager and never switched (long time ago). Seems natural to me to have the throttle in my right hand and steering on the left, my standard shift cars are similar and I drove full size planes that way.

Unfortunately that knob is in the exact wrong place for me with the throttle on the right, also I hate the new trim levers (buttons), no feedback. Prefer FASST over FHSS also.

What else can I find wrong with modern radios? :D

I just love the look and feel of these things...

Never seen a single or tandem seat military plane with the throttle on the right. The F-16 had a side stick on the right that controlled the elevators, ailerons and weapon deployment, along with other functions. Every Navy jet I ever saw also had the throttle(s) on the left side EXCEPT the S-3 Viking, E-2 Hawkeye and A-3 Skywarrior, all having the engine controls in the center console between the pilots.
As far as the flip phones, I still have one, just not for much longer. Mine is a 3G and I've been told that the network won't support 3G after the end of the year so, for those that still want them, plan on at least $1400

is your 3E-GX converted to 2.4Ghz? I love those radio's.

I just remembered, this was the radio I had the pack nearly catch fire in, wonder if the byproducts ruined the pots?
is that the Tx pack? Is it LiPo?

I still have my 1990's Airtronics 3PS "Caliber" FM, Pistol, radio. Very good radio's. Tempted to use it now (even though I have new Sanwa/Airtronics M12s & M17 2.4GHz gear)

Terry,
Sounds like your 3EGX's are finally petrifying..... 😂
I totally understand.....My favorite radio of all time was the Futaba 3EG where you could easily mix the throttle with the rudder.....
It is just hell to get old.....
I am sure there are some very good radios out there but you will have to get a line of credit on the house to buy one.... 😅
Grandpa Rod.....
