I’ve seen some people who have painted faux mahogany and it looks pretty good. My Nitrogen started its life intending to be the full mahogany Miss US but I I wanted more colour so chose the Nitrogen. But it was built with 1/32 decking and then overlayed with super thin door skin mahogany, the door skin had also been milled down to a super thin thickness, net result of the sandwiched was 1/32 and mahogany is just barely a net 1/16th. The result is a beautiful finish. I bet you could pull off the same with a glass Hull but would just need to make sure your hull weight doesn’t balloon. Depending on which hull you pick you would only need to do that where the mahogany shows and with the painted parts being straight glass. Just a thought!

My favorite solution is to glue 1/32 balsa over the hull and then stain it. Thin drafting lines can create the panel lines or you can even cut it into scale size sheets.

You can always Hydro dip the boat, There was a sport 40 done here in Australia a few years ago that turned out ok after having a wood grain pattern done all-over the hull. The only problem I could pick on was that the grain size wasn't scale to the hull.

Yep, no 1/8th scale wood grain out there. I have seen some very nicely done paint faux wood finish done directly onto the fiberglass. Pretty sure no ones going to notice when it's blasting by at 60 mph.

Larry,
If you want mahogany veneer, I have a large roll, give me some oversize dimensions and you pay the shipping and its yours, use water based contact adhesive as if you were laminating furniture or countertops.

Hey Joe,
If you have enough, would you be willing to bring some to Charleston, would like to put some on a T-Boat sponson's
Let me know & I'll get some rough measurements.
