Hi all  a friend bought a Prather 31'' deep vee kit im guessing 1985 - 1990 vintaage . The hull has a slot cutout for subsurface drive  my friends intentions are to set up this hull for b/l electric 4s power. Should he set up sub surface or surface drive system for this hull ? Regards Andris Golts.

My son, Paul and I ran a Prather 31" Deep Vee for years back in the day.   Won a lot of 20 Mono races with that hull.   It was subsurface drive.  If I were setting one up today, I'd make it surface drive.

I have several of the Prather Offshore Deep Vees and I had contacted Hyperformance Products about setup a few years ago (they have most all of the old Prather molds and do sell hulls). Long story short I inquired about setting up with surface drives vs. standard sub surface and they recommended to stay sub surface as the hulls handled better.

That makes sense ,they were designed to use sub surface.

yeah, the Prather deep vee's feature a more "shallow" (or flatter) angle than most of the newer-generation vee hull's that are incorporating surface drive (more acute vee angle).

I ran one for years as a surface drive. Ran great and won quite a bit of hardware with it.

Don't think you can go wrong either way.
