A friend of mine pulled out .32 nitro of a 30" proboat thunder cat and converted it to electric using brusheless rimfire 3280 kv and 6cell lipo. The problem is it shreeded the prop cable just free spinning it....Is there a stronger prop cable he can get or can we get some advice on what to do to keep this from happening again?
 
Was the motor running on the right direction? Also, was there enough of a gap between the strut and drive dog...usually the width of the cable you're using...

Edited my last post up top btw...

Just switch any two of the three wires to run in the other direction....
 
That set up is over 70,000 rpm no load. If that's correct, I'm surprised the motor didn't throw a magnet. Are you sure he didn't run two 3S packs in parallel? That would be more appropriate. If you all did indeed run that motor on 6S, that explains why you shredded the cable.

Kent's ideas are also good things to check. Also check motor/flex alignment and too much gap between collet and stuffing tube.

The questions of voltage and direction aside, it is NEVER a good idea to give any BL motor full throttle on the bench out of the water. Nothing good ever comes of doing it, and it tells the owner absolutely nothing useful. Give the throttle a slight blip to confirm the direction of rotation then straightaway put that puppy in the water where it belongs. There may be nothing wrong with the setup at all - just owner abuse.

I totally agree...never done anything like that myself, but i'm sure they were thrilled hearing it run! Just part of getting into FE....learn and learn more! Just like Chilli said...good thing the motor didn't throw a magnet...or worse! They simply need good direction...word of caution: if you get the shaft fixed and put that puppy in the water, expect something to go wrong!

70,000 rpm ? Your not getting that from a nitro motor....or gasoline.....You could throw a prop blade.....

You can spend from $60 TO $300 for a good motor to power that boat depending on it's purpose?
