Keeping the reciever dry !

Hi i just purchased 2 Futaba R153 micro receivers for my electric boats up to now i have been mounting my cheap am receiver s in foam velcro ed up off the the hull floor as we all know sooner or later water finds its way near radio gear years ago i put recievers in balloons which was a nuisance . Is there such a thing as a waterproof reciever box ? Are there other ways to protect from water ? These recievers are costly. Regards Andris Golts.

What I do with mine is to add 2" or 3" extension pigtails to the plug sockets, use some clear waterproof packaging tape to cover over any openings (like the plug for the battery if using a BEC ESC and the crystal hole, etc.), then I dip the whole unit in some lightly thinned clear "Plastidip" tool dip... I sometimes use a small artists acrylic paint spatula to smooth the dip out and wipe off the excess, then place the whole unit on wax paper on a flat surface to dry overnight... The next day, you'll want to carefully peel it off the wax paper and lay it on it's side to let the bottom completely dry...

This gives you a nearly waterproof RX, and the bottom ends up very flat and will hold industrial strength velcro very well... Haven't had one fail yet...

If you have one with adjusting pots for changing frequencies, just tape over them with the clear tape, dip in the coating, let dry, then gently make a small slice in the area where you need to make the adjustments... You can usually get a small screwdriver in there and the tool-tip closes right back up again when the driver is removed...

Hi Andris , all my receivers (and batteries for that matter) go into ordinary balloons , then i just ziptie the neck of the balloon with a cable tie , double sided tape will hold onto the balloon rubber just fine so you can stick it were ever you like and ive never had a wet receiver yet

seems simple but works just fine

Balloons are not a good idea. water will get in, and cant get out.

I dip my reciever boards in corrosion X, let drip dry for a few hours and put them back in the case. no probs in years.

Tissues or paper towel are a must, even in electric boats, any water that gets in will be soaked up. Spend time on

making sure everything is sealed water tight, this is the most important part.

In most of my radio boxes I have a tampon or two.....................yep you read it right, one of those female thingys. Perfect for absorbing water from radio boxes. Sure, you get some strange looks and comments from fellow boaters, but you'll never have a water/moisture problem again. Easy to deal with, unwrap and throw in there and replace as necessary should you spring a leak

I draw the line at purchasing them though.........................Even I don't have the courage to do that without gigling like a school girl, why I don't know (probably cause I'm just a big kid :lol: :lol: ). Just throw them on the shopping list with the girlfriend/wife/significant other and you're good to go for a moisture free boating session next time out.

I dip my reciever in plastic to make sure all cracks are filled then i wrap it with toweling and place it into a ballon. never had any problems
