We are talking about several different things. One is the distance from the transom to the prop. I believe that increasing this on a 3.5 tunnel by running a Lawless or 7.5 lower unit may improve the handling of some tunnels. The other is the position of the hinge pin relative to the transom. I don't know how changing this affects handling. I do think that placing weight at the ends of a boat reduces its ability to handle chop. If you space the engine back from the transom, you need to add weight to maintain the same CG. Doing that often makes rough water handling worse.
