    creeping needle

I'm looking for suggestions to help keep a screw type highpspeed needle (screw type implying you use a flat-blade screwdriver to turn it) from creeping out of adjustment. As the engine runs the needle vibrates itsel into a leaner setting. the worst I've experienced is the needle leaning itself...

    engine tuning pipe question

Okay all you engine tuners, I've been in the midst of putting together a pipe and header length calculator in the form of an excel file. Most of the time when someone talks pipe length, they are talking overall lenght. I'm setting my file up to calculate both overall, & header length. For...

    C/R & Nitro

Has anyone seen a published table or thread that discusses or shows which compression ratios are best for which nitro %??? ie. 7.2:1 - 8.0:1 is best for 20% nitro, 8.2:1 - 9.0:1 is best for 40% ............... and so on. I'm figuring there has to be some corallation given these engines work...

    PIPE LENGTH

Here's a question rattling around in my head... The engine generates a wave the travells down the pipe. IF, all things being equal (in set-up) and desired end result (HP @ hi RPM) regardless of displacement (3.5cc/7.5cc) pipe length should be the same . Right??? Only the volume...

    I lost my favorite pond

I lost my favorite pond last week... It was a nice little water-shed pond at an industrial complex. 300 yrds X 50 yrds, just right for .21 size boats. Not too far from my house. The trees and bildings kept the water calm on even the windiest of days. The corporation said they had noticed a...

    Pitch is measured...

I know what pitch is, I have a pitch gauge I've used. But I know I'm not doing it correctly here's what I do - 1. I begin by locating 65% of the length of the trailing edge of a blade and make that my referance point to begin from. 2. As I take pitch measurements, working my way toward the...

    K&B 3.5 Compression

I'm looking for suggestions as to what should be the optimal compression ratio for an engine I'm setting up. I think I'm settling on 9.75:1, any reason(s) I should lower or raise the ratio? here's what I've got going on.. -K&B 3.5 -Irwin stamped pipe -128 trans port timing -125 boost port...

    Slow Electric

All you e-boaters... After reading the thread in the General Boating Forum about an electric retreval boat, I thought it might be prudent to approach the electric experts. If I were to build an e-retrieval boat... What would be some of your suggestions to these thoughts a. sub-surface...

    Con-Rod, installation

Question??? Obviously there is a crank end and piston end to the rod. But is there a "front & back" (front meaning facing front plate)? Does it matter. I've got rods from an 8907 (round cross section) and an older 8906 (flat cross section) which I'm working with. chunk t

    Engine block interior

Geraghty, I have a new K&B 3.5 I'm re-assembling & I noticed that two of the bolt holes for the front plate broke through to the interior of the block (they weren't tapped straight). Also I noticed that the machinist at K&B hit some of the porosity of the casting when they machined the inner...

    Chicago Boaters

Any of you have experience or knowledge about Beverly Lake in Hoffman Estates? According to the Cook Co. FP web site, it is open to boating. Port Work

I just opened up some exhaust ports on two sleeves. The cuts are nice and clean for the most part. "for the most part... I found a slight sharp ridge on the inner sleeve wall along a radius I cut between the verticle & horizontal edges" How far should/can I go breaking the edge to clean up...

    INSTALLING ENGINE BEARINGS

I'm looking for your preferances for installing engine bearings? Do youi like to - 1. load both bearings in the front plate first then press in the crank? or 2. install the main bearing to the crank and the support bearing to the front plate, before pressing the crank in? I typically use...

    Silver Bullet Pipe

I just picked up a new silver bullet pipe, which I believed to be a 3.5 size. (the store owner thought it was a 3.5 also) The only paper work it came with was an installation sheet and sticker set. The lable on the package only said that it is a Silver Bullet Pipe. How do I tell if it is a...
