Brian Buaas brought out a new TS3 with a P Spec power setup to our Puget Sound MBC race on the 7th. Brian has built some very fast P Spec Tunnels and stated he thought this combination was the best he has done. He easily won the class.

Just wait until we get some tuning time on the little beastie. The pics were taken the fourth charge on the boat, it hit the water for the first time Saturday. It's very good already and will only get better.

It's an easy conversion, but does require a little cutting on the hull. I'll post some pics of the installation tomorrow.

Cutting.....does this hurt the strength of the hull...or did you make it extra stiff somewhere?.

Brian

Any little tips on your props.

Im starting to play with my 2003 build villain S1 with UL-1 motor again.

Just not happy with a stock x640.

Cheers

Dave,

I know that Brian uses the ABC/Grim 42x55 as a starting point. Gets backcut and tweaked from there....

Brian easily beat the two VS-1 hulls (one was his old boat) in the race. The larger size of the TS-3 along with a little narrower tunnel seems just about right for anything but the smoothest conditions. The very neat radio box added strength, if anything. This would make a great RTR package.

I run LSH (P-limited Sport Hydro) right now and will be running a P-limited Hydro (rigger) next race season. I intend to add an OPC hull for next season as well, but I can't make up my mind as to what hull to use. If the conversion is easy for the TS3 I would definitely like to go that route as I like the size and looks of it. What lower unit was used?

Brian has the O.S. Lower on his TS3 hull

Hello Sean

I am thinking about the TS3 also....

I am really loving FE now after attending the Nationals in Colorado

I just got my JAE FE in from David Prusse....He did an awesome job putting it together.

I am thinking about this lower unit:

Nice looking hardware on the site for the conversion also.

Let me know your thoughts

Sean and Ronald,

The radio box extends into what used to be the fuel tank tray. Once you glue the box in place, there is no change in hull strength. The bottom of the box is open except for the rear area that seals the cut out section. The radio/battery box sides get bonded into the recess in the center of the hull. It's a pretty quick conversion.

Dave,

42x55, back cut .090", slight detongue, 3.8" cup.

Glad to hear that you're putting some FEs together. I do both nitro and FE too and love racing both.

BTW. Dave Pruesse races in my home district (Dist 4.) I was just talking to him at our last race and he mentioned that he might run a P-limited hydro with us next year. I had no idea that he built them for others. I'm sure yours will be a great running boat judging from how ALL of his boats perform.

I was driving Brians old VS1 and his new TS3 was much faster. It was a total blast competing against him driving his own boat.He was really working on me to come over to the dark side as he put it and go with a FE but I have to many nitro boats already, maybe next year. Actually I think we have convinced Brian to come over to our side at least for awhile.Overall it was an experience to remember. See ya next time Brian

Brian

Thanks - always willing to share.

I'll give a 42/55 a go stock and then go from there.

Nice pics also.

David did like a 80% construction for me & I have to do the rest.....His workmanship is very very good.

BTW I ended up ordering the Cobra Tunnel Hull from Daniel Hutchinson after reading some posts on Rum Runner & OSE.

It was very close between the Cobra & the TS3 in my ordering decision.

Jim,

How about a cool boat stand for the TS-3?

And I go to the web page to find you already have one :D

Bryan,

Get hold of Brian Buaas, he's on IW. He has one really nice running TS3 P Spec.

I've mostly settled on the UL-1 motor as the one to run. http://www3.towerhob...?&I=LXVSV3&P=Z I have tried several speed controls. The one that comes with the UL-1 has a relatively high internal resistance and limits performance. My latest speed control has been the Turnigy Marine 120 amp controller. http://www.hobbycity...Product=8946 The Turnigy Aquastar has not proven to be durable enough. The Castle Hydra 120 is also used, but is 4 times the cost. I've been running Turnigy 40C 4000 mah cells. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10303 Other similar 40C or better cells will also work. You need 5.5 mm bullet connectors on everything, otherwise you will melt the solder on the stock connectors. http://www.hobbycity...?idProduct=2087
