Would you be in favor of a internats format with rolling US-1 classes. This would be one year Sport

Id like to try a Format that includes trophy trials but only running specific hull types at each event. My plan is to run all classes first that wont be running for US-1 . Trying to complete those classes then moving to US-1 classes. Trials would be held the last day for those classes. By doing this if not running Us-1 classes you can go home. Also a limitation on boats you may enter for US-1 would be 3 boats per contestant.

Please keep this discussion civil or I will have it deleted Mike Schindler 9112cd D-14 director

This could work pretty good! Mike just curious as to why not complete 5 rounds heat racing all together then final day trophy trails for the specific classes for that year? But whichever way I'm all aboard I voted yes.

Just a thought. In keeping the prestige of a time trials, US-1 award, why not make a minimum of 10 boats in a class to qualify for the award. The smaller classes eliminated will make an easier day of trials. A contestant might not not be happy winning a 15 boat class and only a Nat Championship and another guy gets a US-1 in a 5 boat class cause that was one picked that year. Let numbers rule.

Mic good post! I was also concerned with the years classes are not running for us1 will not have a good turnout?.. Also if you let numbers rule and say 10-12 classes are eligible for us-1 the event is back up to 6-7-8 days of racing?

So how many days will it take to do this format if it is your class year for us1 does everyone get to do time trials or are you going to limit like rule book does now? So do you offer all Nitro classes every year 6

These are the racers that need to chime in. http://www.intlwaters.com/index.php?showtopic=68201&hl=winners&page=1

Peter based on current votes it split almost 50. 50 so let's see if the votes swing

if this style would get the time trials back, then I am in favor.

US-1 is certainly a distinctive award. It is indeed a very difficult race to run in an available reasonable time limit.

Boat count limit to qualify for US-1 has usually been set at 8 or more, at least in the many 'Nats I have been involved with.

it takes half an hour to run the oval time trial and half hour for the straights for each class in the Top Five style that has recently been used.

How many classes can you do in a day, and keep trials down to one day?? about 8 including all the time it takes to set up the lights

That should be ok for the style Mike is proposing. it may give room for more that the top five too

Sport boats and tunnels have 8 classes

Mono 4

hydro 5

We can discuss this all day. 25 different ways to to this and that but we still haven't gotten to what I feel is the CORE issue ... Where to do it

Every yr same thing. Nobody wants to mess with it. Until we get that resolved this will continue to be a issue. My personal opinion we need in place that we know will be every year if for no other purpose than to allow to plan for it.

Your right Chris it's not where it's who. Mt. Vernon is a great site with more parking for campers,on site hookups and enough room for everyone.

And what boats will be able to run for US-1? Will it include gas and FE? I feel a new format should include all power sources.

I just wish we could get a outside group to run it.. you of all people know best mikey.. it is so much work and e-ville is i am sure BURNED out from doing it so many times.

Why not have IMPBA locate a lake or pond centrally located in the US and run the event once a year using Mic format. This way every 3 years you have a chance at running US 1. With IMPBA running the event the elected officials will be the muscle to get things done with volunteers from nearest local district clubs. Just my opinion.

Been done. Huntsville Alabama and Dick Tidwell was the president and CD
