Hi guys ,

is it a good idea to use Loctite RTV red instead a regular gasket ?

Alex

depends on where it's used. if clearance is based on a gasket being in place. the clearance will be tighter with rtv.

+1 on the clearance. I would use either ultra grey rtv or ultra black rtv, if you can use sealant. They both seem to have a little more "body" & hold up better, IMO. The ultra grey is my personal choice for sealing something that is subjected to heat, chemicals & vibration. Some brands call them "mega", rather than "ultra". Same stuff, different name.

On a side note, if it is to be used in an application where it will be exposed to gas then that might not work. Gas attacks silicone where as glow fuel and nitro do not. Just my 2 cents...

Instead of Loctite RTV you may want to consider Loctite 580 Surface Sealant?? I have removed the base gasket on Gas engines to squeeze the clearance with much success..Haven't had a case leak problem in three years!!

Later!!
