Just curious.. on some of the hydros out there 21 and so on.

If you layed a rule across the front sponsons on the ride surface and measured from the tub to the ruler, what would you have?

Just curious what boats are what and trying to find if there is a good or better number.

Uh oh! Chris is thinking again! Hey dude, need to get to building a sport 21 hydro :D

I've always shoot for 3/4" on my 45 hulls (Scratch built). I find that lower and i can hear "slap-slap-slap" like big boat cutting across choppy water, as I come down the front straight in rough water. At 3/4" that goes away for me and the boat is faster and smoother. Never gone higher.

Chris,

Here on the west coast most of the fast boats that run in SAW have a tub height of 1". (21-45-67-80)

Chris:

The replies have been right on target. If you get the tub too close to the water it will slap in either rough water or heat race water. Anything less than about 5/8" is too close and anything more than 7/8" for a 20 hydro is too much for heat racing (gets the roll center too high). I personally use 3/4" for my 20 hydro.

The suggestion about a SAW boat being 1" is to keep the air from packing under the tub and is correct in my opinion.
