I know it's only Wed. so slightly early for "throw back Thursday", but my father and I had a 3D Demon back in the early 80's. had a 60 OPS in it. Wish I can find it again.

Good Times.

Tom Daniels made some great boats.

I remember it well. We ran a lot of Tom's boats back in the day. I don't have any pictures of them. They were great in the SAW but did some shuffling in the corners.

I see Tom's sons Craig and Brian every winter in FL. and Lois his wife is in the Villages. The boys are in the Bradenton area, Craig has all the molds for all the boats and sold a few new - old stock hulls at the Nitro Championships a year ago.

John

Don't know if Craig has all of the molds, but he does have the 20 3D Demon molds

Shoot him a PM Craig Daniels on here.. I have spoke to him about the 20 boats
Craig's shop is loaded and I'm almost positive he has all the molds including the very first mold which is a full body hydro - I'm able to use his machine shop equipment when I'm down for the winter. He's got a 60 boat already to run but we didn't get him to the pond to test it before l headed back north. He may connect with Brandon club or Tampa club as he's been to both ponds and met many old friends there. Let me know via pm if anyone wants to contact Craig. He's on here but I'm not sure how often.

Thanks, John

I set a bunch of IMPBA electric records with Tom's 24" Demon way back in the day. I still have that boat 'in stock'.

I wish I still had the 28" Demon he made me, it would make an awesome 21 SAW mono...

Even though there are some non-legal issues with the bottom now.

Buy it, make a mold and vacuum bag a CF version!

yep, there you go!

Actually I often think of doing this (fabricating a mold from an existing "shell"- ie. a boat hull, or a canopy, or a part, etc.,..), but have'nt done it enough yet to know how to do it right (guess I have to start somewhere?). I know there are endless how-to YouTube video's and such.

My major questions would be:

1. what type and weight of cloth is best for creating mold (initial lay-up of object)?

2. how many layers are typically required (say for a 30in to 40in mono-hull)?

3. what is a proven type/brand of release agent?

I'm sure there are many other questions, including vacuum-bagging basic's, etc.,...

The IMPBA mono rules have not changed since "back in the day".

I recently sent photos and measurements to IMPBA mono director, John Finch.

He sent me a statement that the Demon was IMPBA Legal.

1. I like tooling gelcoat followed by 2 layers of 6oz + 2 layers of 18oz cloth.

2. Would think 3 or 4 layers of bagged 6oz CF would work.

3. I use Partall wax and PVA.
