I was talking with someone about making some of these at Hobart last year. The someone said they are available from a manufacture. I think it was John Beardslee. But my memory aint what it used to be. Was looking for a source to get some. Cant seem to find them. Or maybe Im just not calling them correctly in my searches. Looking for some in the range of .015-.020".

Mike,

Was it a restrictor in the water line?

Like the tee fittings off the rudder?

Let Us Know?

Mike, are you talking about the bent, restricted K&B water fitting that could be used in conjunction with a needle to turn an outboard front housing into a venturi? Like the mod outlined in the old Prather mod kit for the Spitfire OB rigger? Part # 84-5903, in stock at Mecoa, $6.85. FYI, the hole through them is 1/16".

Basically it was a nipple with a 10/32 thread on one end that had a bored hole thru it. Using it for a carb. No needle. Fixed flow of fuel.

Mike, are you want a straight nipple/fitting with 10-32 thread? I have some brass made 5mm thread straight nipple/fitting may suit your need.

I can send pic through email for review.

Yeah thats probably what Im gonna do. Was thinking some would be color coded or something to keep track of size. Got so much to do around the house now with the nice weather. Anything I can buy would help with that. Oh well. Its garage cleaning day. Need to lay up some parts and the vacuum bench is chalk full of crap. No room.

Not sure if this sortta what you were thinking but Mike Z (Grimracer) used to sell a 10/32 water fitting with different size inserts that screwed in to adjust the water coming up through the rudder

Hi Mike,

I remember, we were talking about using "fixed sized jets" instead of an adjustable needle valve. Ron Logghe and I made some right after we started using the propane flow meters that Tom Hyner designed, we thought that type of flow meter would compensate for weather etc. but it didn't so we stopped trying the fixed jets. Carl Bray of CeeBee products also made some around the same time. Our fixed jets went in fuel line from the tank to the spray bar, they were made from brass rod stock to fit in the fuel line. They were about an inch long and we predrilled from each end over sized and left a thin web in the center. We used small number drills to drill the web but made a sizing tool from music wire by putting a long tapered point on the end of it with a belt sander and using it like a hand reamer polish the hole in the web to get the flow numbers we wanted that matched our recorded numbers from test with inflight needles. We chamfered and softened all the flow edges so the fuel had a nice smooth route to the carb. Hope this helps.

Thanks, John

Oh great, my memory is not as bad as I thought. LOL Thanks John. It is helpful. Just need to find the time now.

Hi Mike,

I found some of mine, pm me your address and I'll send you what I have. These were for my .80 twin, so they may be to large but at least you'll have a sample of what we did. With Boris' flow meter I think it might be worth revisiting the fixed jets.

Thanks, John
