So after a 10 year break I've decided to build a boat. Half the fun for me will be choosing and assembeling the boat in an astetically pleasing way, so performance is defnitely not a priority. I really want to hand build a wood hull and step nitro engines, but I just don't think I'm ready for that big of a challenge yet. So I think I've decided that I want a vee hull around 30" .21 engine and a color scheme of orange and black, maybe silver too.

My top choices now are:

Hull- http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=df-Storm

Engine- http://www.amain.com/rc-boats/x-act-performance-.21-sportive-marine-3-port-nitro-engine-turbo-plug-xct-21msportive/p413772

Pipe- http://xact-rc.com/x-act-21-marine-sportive-engine-spares/60-x-act-21-marine-tuned-pipe-set.html

Drive- Speedmaster SPDSD-21403/16" Stinger Drive

Rudder- Speedmaster SPDR-001-M MONO .21 Rudder assembly

I know I need all the other accessories like prop, fuel tank, starter, radio box, ect. I am not exactly sure what it is exactly I need for the shaft and all that stuff. Frankly I just want to put that X-act motor in an orange and black boat, but I need help with the list of all the other things needed. So if anyone could help point me in the right direction that would be really great. Thanks.

Ben,

You have a PM.

Thanks

That engine looks like a GO 21. The nova Rossi 5p 21 is the best for your money. I usually say it's just opinion but I'll back that one as fact. About 220 or so and will out run any motor in the price range. The delta force is a seaducers splash I think and do run well. The go motors I hear run well also. There are lots more to choose from as of late. Don't have to spend top dollar to stay mid of the pack. More about setup these days. Welcome back

Also zippkits makes a lot of decent hardware for low cost. Won't call it the best but prolly best bang for buck. Stay away from the zipp collet though. Caused me lots of heartache.

I looked at some of their stuff, but don't know how you find out if any of that stuff would fit the hull I'm looking at buying. I only ever built cars and had a nitro hammer boat I messed around with. When you say collet I have a vague idea of what you mean, but all the shaft hardware and how it is assembled is largely a mystery to me. I really need an itemizted list of what parts are required to get the power from the engine to the prop. And I'm sure the engine I choose is far from the best, but it is very cheap, and I'm more interested in the way it will look in the boat than going fast.

Ben,

Check out some of these books by John Finch.

Basics and Advanced books.

They are from years ago but I think they will give you some guidance.

ALL HAIL TO THE BOATING GOD, JOHN FINCH!!!!

Oh My. I just looked at the Prices on the books!! I think mine was only $12 back then

Would be interesting to open one of them xact motors up and see what's inside. Probably identical to the go or Nova..

I will have a few items coming soon. Would it be possible to use balsa wood coated in resin for stringers?

NO,.. use plywood for stingers.. balsa will pull out.. That book on advanced model boats has enough info to keep you going for a long time,.. I have a copy in box someplace myself.. great piece of information .

If you want a fiberglass boat, AC models makes some good user friendly boats. The Waveslave, Magnum 21, and the Comp 30 are all good boats.

Marty

Alright thanks. I'll prollbably start a new build thread once some of the parts I ordered arrive.

Google speed master. or go to rossi sales on internet. speed master hardware is a great bang for the buck. get the mono rudder and strut Assembly. Get a mini drop mount for for your engine mount. and Andy is right on with the nova rossi 5 port. brand new kick ass engine for $195.00 is a great deal, and they really run too. speed master will tap your engine mount for you. keep an Eye on the for sale forum on this site, Ive seen some nice stuff sell for a good deal.

I already went ahead and got Speedmaster hardware, but I didn't know they would tap the mount for me. I will definitely look into that.

Ben, welcome back to the hobby. One thing for sure, you came to the best place in the world to find others that are passionate about this hobby.

The Novarossi 5port (thanks Anthony) can be purchased at novarossi.us. You will also find some other items you will need such as header, couplers, and pipe. You are welcome to send me an email with any questions about setup to help you get started. Good luck with your build!!!
