was just wondering if the is any rule about running a flat bottom strut on a nitro 1/8 scale? was not sure if Impba considers it another riding point or not? thanks, mike.

Mike,

No rule guru for sure. I just read the rules is all and they were updated 2018 and didn't see that mentioned like say a Jersey skiff can not run flat bottom.

Don't think it is specified so you are good to run either type I believe.

I think being a 3 point with the one point being the prop/strut I would think that would almost say it can plane on the struts surface. ???

Hull bottom and running hardware will not be judged or checked. However, hull must not deviate from conventional 3-point hydro (unless prototype was a different design).

a. Hull bottom must be scale appearing.

b. Belly pans are acceptable to clear engine and/or flywheel but maximum width shall be no greater than 5". Belly pan may not be used as a form of planing surface and can not exceed the depth of any riding surface or recovery surface.

c. Secondary front sponson running surfaces are optional.

d. Air traps are optional.

No rule about that in IMPBA. I run a flat bottom strut on mine. I think it's beneficial for rear winged boats.

I have been running them on everything from round nose to winged boats. Anything I need a little more lift than I can get with a prop. As the rule states above we do not take running hardware into account aside from the usual strut/drive dog locations.

hey guy's,thanks very much for all the replies. i have always ran a round strut, but i am going to try out a few ABC props and not sure if they required any extra lift as compared to the prather props i run now. the boat is a twin wing hull and i have never had a problem getting the ass end up.i ordered a speedmaster flat bottom to keep in the box just in case.thanks again guy's,mikie.
