Hi All,

I may not get any feedback on this but that is ok, just trying to do better.

Hope this is the right forum (if not im sure Don will fix lol)

I have produced 300 SS drive dogs to which approx 60 have been sold.

The other 240 are going through final machining and dress up.

They have been beefed up a little by length, dia, and tongue width along with a single flat set screw.

I don't have a list of who have purchased yet but would like feedback on if they are good to go or need some sort of improvement.

Below is a finished one of the 60.

The specs are a bit secret but if you have purchased one you know what final improvements need to be.

Thanks

Tim

Add a second set screw 180 degrees from the first one and add a small 45 degree angle to the front edge of the dog. Also, use short set screws ( 1/8 inch long ) with cup seat, not a serrated one. Always put them in with red Loctite. Thanks for making these, Tim!

Hi Will,

For Now It 3/16"

Thank You For All The Input.

List of order of most popular.

1-The double set screw seems the most popular, I have set up a jig and have begun that process.

2- rounded leading edge, There is already a slight one. looking into the time to increase.

3- The shaft fit is better that a Octura and around .188" +/- .0005" seems to be the lucky number as not all shafts are exact as I have found.

When I sell shafts I have fitted them and that number seems to be spot on without any problems.

4- Set screw is probably a easy fix. The pic is misleading and thread contact is a balancing act, that is why I picked a flat set screw.

Please keep in mind, time is the most important factor, so I think the double set screw would be the most valuable and keep with competitive/reasonable pricing.

I don't think there is much profit to be made but that is not really the point here for me.

I'm thinking a week or so they will become available.

Thanks Again For The feedback and Pm's on this.

Tim

Edited....

I just did a few of them...just 2 set screws, I will get shorter screws.IMG_1969.JPGIMG_1970.JPG

Once you center up the dog to drill the set screw hole, just drill all the way through the dog and run the tap all the way through, also. Use plenty of Tap Magic, lubricant, etc. when you do this! Thanks for doing these, Timmy!

Thanks Dick,

Unfortunately I'm modifying the finished singles thus far and that is a very good point to what you say.

I tried going through the set hole with a center bit without much luck(inexperience maybe) but its doesn't come out the other side on line with the tang, so I made a jig just for the other side and is coming out very nice.Truthfully since I improved and line up the jig properly I haven't tried again drilling through the existing set screw hole yet.

Once I get through these I will do what you say and I'm sure I will get back to being proficient... LOL

I have about 10 done

Thanks

Tim

Given I don't have a machine shop, trying to create parallel flats on a shaft with a dremel would be futile. I also was reading about dual flats weakening the shaft. I'm going with the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality. One set screw is all that's needed. Can't make everyone happy unless you do both. Keep up the nice work!

Yes Grayson,

I will have both available single and double set screw.
