Winston Eagle Lobster Cowl Part 4

Good News, the cowl had been back from the fiberglass shop a few weeks and it looks awesome. Meanwhile I had worked on the Winston Eagle Lobster hull; foamed the inside of the sponsons and finished installing the top deck, and also built up and mounted the rear wing and side stabs along with the front canards and flaps,

Cut up and fitted one cowl unit and just tape it on the Winston Eagle Lobster hull and took it to the Gas National last week for a pre-view. Hope next Gas Nats will have some 1/6 scale hulls racing !!! Her's some pics.

Seeing the cowl on the hull makes a big difference from just the cowl?? I thought it was stubby but now paired with the hull I must admit you have done one helluva job!!! Congratulations Now like me, we are at the same point get it painted and get it on the water... I chose to go with the '89 Winston and haven't put on the rear sponsons.. Want to see how it acts??? Hope to catch you at a pond somewhere in the near future!!

Hi Guys, had a computer glitch and could not get on till today ( wood not sealed ), because of rain at the Gas Nats I didn't have the Lobster out on the table but for one day and the response was very good from those that did take a peak at it.

The cowl was laid up with two ounce fiberglass matt and is a little on the heavy side and once cutting all the openings it is a little lighter but still not happy with the weight. I will correct this problem by laying it up with one ounce fiberglass cloth and polyester resin. As for the cowl itself, the detail is awesome and was a breeze cutting it up without having to draw anything for the windshield openings / scoop / rear vents / rear turbine pipe opening / and last, even the base line is easily cut off.

By simply following the indents on the cowl, is what makes this possible and the last thing was to carefully cut the cowls base line off, then minor fitting to the hulls top was all that was needed.

As for a windshield I will be using Phil Thomas's plastic window, and by cutting it up into five pieces ( maybe three ) it should work.

Well, this is the last on this topic, it was was fun doing this project and hope it help you all in some way !!! Looking forward to finishing the Lobster hull and getting it ready for paint

Yes Pat, it look's stubby ( not painted also ), and if you look carefully at pics of the real Lobster, the black paint outline in front of the canopy is what most of us are use to looking at when painted. this is what 's making the canopy look longer. Their is a pic out their that if you look at it from a side profile you can see that the front of the canopy ( front windshield bottom ) is more rounded and dose not come to a point, it's the black painted panel that is given it a longer look.

Glad to hear theirs another build out there and will be glad in meeting you at a race and a hole bunch of fun !!!!!!!!!!
