I boil my pipes in antifreeze (ethylene glycol) in an old crock pot and they come out just great.

I have mine hot tanked at the radiator shop to get all the gunk out of the inside as well.

Here is an article that recommends boiling the parts in water with Cascade dishwashing detergent.
