i have the opportunity to get a great deal on an older insane hydro. looks like a gen 2 best i can tell from the pictures. it is in great condition, looks like its spent alot of time parked in the garage. is this going to be a decent boat? i am just a pond basher, run with a handful of guys for fun. everyone else is running whip/backlash. any way this thing can run with them or am i going to be the laughing stock. its cheap so i don't mind giving up a little but still want to be able to get in and mix it up. i dont run gassers often but dont want to end up with a turd

Tom Foley has one, don't remember which gen it is, but a few years back, he raced it regularly.....he let me take it around the bouys for a number of laps, and I couldn't believe has well it handled, and fast too! A very NICE running boat!

I have had a couple of them over the years, Since you are not heat racing this will be a great boat for you. If I was going to heat race, no doubt I would be running either a whiplash, backlash or whiplash GV. I also have one of the new hydro's that CC racing builds based on the old PI hydro that runs extremely well. I don't have enough time on it yet to brag but I think it will be a contender as well.

If the price is right and its in good shape, go for it, they are a lot of fun to run, like someone else said, very fast in the straights, but will not corner like a whip.

That G2 looks like the boat Clayton of TX. has for sale. I got a Whiplash from him a few weeks ago and he's a great guy to deal with send me pictures of every area of the boat I wanted to see. And quickly got back to me about any question I asked. The boat was everything he said it was. I'm getting extra spare parts from him next week. The boat came with no damage and very well packaged. He's a man of his word. Like to give credit when it's do.

Thanks, ronnie. I will keep that in mind. I'm waiting for him to get back home so he can give me pics n details. Wish I could find a whip someone was willing to part with but having no luck.

It's all brand new, hull, paint, hardware. Untouched. I dunno, what would it cost to get to that point from a pile of sticks......?

You will have a blast with the Gen 2 , don't listen to naysayers . It may not be your last gas hydro but you will have a blast . They handle rough water great .

I had one back in the day and it was great, Also look for a S-30 4 blade prop it ran the best with that prop.

I just built a backlash its posted on here, check it out, its my first gas boat build, and its more fun to build a boat in my opinion you get more satisfaction

it may seem easy to build but i'll tell you its not it takes alot of time to get them done right and thats 1/4 of the work then you have to set them up properly. all my gas boats are wood whips and backlashes and i have learned.
