Hi all split the rear end of my sprint abs cowl glued it back using Humbrols precision poly cement and taped in place with 3M 233+ automotive masking tape i will let the glue dry for 24 hrs. My repair ? is when it comes time to smooth the exterior seam. Do i wet sand to blend . What grit wet paper ? can i use any kind of filler if need be ? I was going to put 2 1/2 fiberglass cloth on inside of cowl using thin pacer ca glue but a friend told me it would make the abs brittle. Would glass cloth and pacer finishing resin work ? Regards Andris Golts.

I have always used ca to attach glass or carbon cloth to the inside of those.

I use epoxy and micro ballons to feather the joints then sand to refinish. That method has always worked for me.

I've repaired a bunch of them that way.

You can get new ones from Dumas (3.5 $25.00) (7.5 $30.00) Y mess with fix them

Depending on the damage, it is possible to make repairs that can result in a cowling that looks as good as new. However, fixing broken model boats/cowlings is one of the three skills I've developed after 52 years of model boat racing. The other two are: rowing the retrieval boat and throwing the tennis ball on the end of a Zebco reel.
