SpeedWeek heat race!

Friends, due to the lack of interest in the RACE part of SpeedWeek, I am canceling the race and changing it to a full 9 days of record trials!

Some details about the record trial:

- Begins Saturday Feb 6th and ends Sun Feb 14th

- I will be there about a week early to work on the lake, so if you want to stop by and test (and help me with setup) COME ON!!!

- Running both 1/16 mile SAW and

- 1/3 mile oval

- Blue Lake is approx 1500' long with the course set very close to the center. Gives almost 600' run-up run on both ends. Although it is not as long as some lakes, the water is often smooth! Over the course of 9 days you will most likely have all the smooth water running time you want!

- The water is generally VERY clear and it is just a very nice place to be! You will often see large bass swimming by the launch area. It is like running boats on a 1500' aquarium!

- Camping at the pond is OK. (I will be there in my motor home)

- If we have limited smooth water on any particular day I will invoke the "boats who need smooth water rule" for the last hour before sunset.

- We will start running as soon as we can get the equipment set up in the morning, and continue as long as there is safe light to run.

- Cost is $40 to entry for the entire 9 days. Come and go as often as you want!

- IMPBA cards will be checked.

I kinda like the One on One racing idea. A 21 rigger could actually put a whoop'n on a Twin 90 rigger Boat size and weight will not be a big factor unless windy conditions.

An 1/8 Scale or 21 mono would not have such a chance, so would have to be some kind of class divisions.

Since you will have the timing set up you could time every boat and set up divisions by time.

Could have 3 or 4 divisions.

20 seconds and under for two laps.

24 seconds

29 seconds

29 and over.

Yes. Would have to time heats with stop watch to find "break outs". Would not be hard with only two boats.

I like the 3 laps idea too. Could make the "Timing round" 3 laps too.....in order to easily determine a direct "Break out" time.

Therefore:

30 sec division

42 sec

87 sec

Over 87 sec division

Interesting thoughts Andy! I'll roll that idea around in my head and see how it works with my other thoughts!

Some additional info:

Each heat will include the full 2 1/2 minute mill time and 6 lap race. If one boat dies the other boat will be declared the winner and will come back to shore even if it hasn't completed the full race (last boat running rule).

I am leaning towards allowing more than one boat entry per person even if we only have one Class. If your two boats get matched up together in a single heat, you will have to choose which of your boats is the "winner" and advances and which one "loses" and is eliminated. I am trying to get folks the most run time. This is one of the rules that will be dependent of the number of entries. Again your patience and flexibility will be appreciated as I work the details!!

Finding a perfect handicapping system would be hard and I am not a big fan of "bracket racing". (we don't have enough sandbags) If its a one class king of the hill race that would discourage many boaters. Maybe 4 classes; Mono, Hydro, Sport Hydro and Outboards on a run what you brung, (nitro-gas-FE) basis would encourage attendance. As for a system that trumps luck with performance the IMPBA InternatsUS-1 format finds the best driver in attendance for each class. We do look forward to the time trials component.

I would love to come down if possible but it would be a last minute decision at best being February with possible weather condition issues. As a facility manager I often must deal with snow removal that time of year.

John, it would be awesome to have you attend! If you have read post #1, you will have seen the race is cancelled and the entire 9 days will be record trials! bring some of your FAST stuff down and join us!!
