Did K/B ever make one? I know they made an outboard and a ducted fan version. I was wondering if the ducted fan version crank shaft, piston and sleeve would work in the K/B .91 inboard?

Over the last 12 months when I have had moments of enthusiasm, I have been moding/developing my K&B 1" Outboard, which shares the same P/S/L as the IB and DF versions.

Stock exhaust opening is 162 deg, which restricts the engine from pulling decent RPM. Having said that the stock K&B con-rod will not handle more RPM than the stock engine configuration(yes, I found out).

I am currently running 180deg on the exhaust, and raised the Boost and transfers from 119 deg to 124 deg. I am also now running a RPM con rod which so far has stood upto the big increase in RPM.

Next step will be to have KRE here in Australia make a custom steel rod for this engine.

Don't want to throw numbers around without running the Eagletree data logger on it, but I think the performance figures will be pretty stout for an old "fuel to noise" converter.

Hi David,

Great to see back in the boating scene.

Flex cable has not been an issue, I don't think I have broken one in the last 12 months, I have replaced a couple prior to failure though. However, I do severely reduce the diameter and area of blades through back-cutting and removing the tongues.

All the props I have been testing have been cut down to 50 - 53mm diameter(X460, P260, P265, X455, 1460, 1455)

The extra weight of 1" outboard seems to counter the extra lift the mod props create, unlike a 3.5 or 7.5 engine.

Shane,

The RPM rods are hard to come by. Not a big fan of the alloy rods in anything bigger than 7.5cc, but the RPM rods are the better option if you can find one.

The same rod is used for the 11cc, 13cc and 16cc K&B engines.
