I have 3 of these Picco P90 engines I am wanting to use 2 of them for a twin mongoose retro style build. I need some information about them, I've been told there are many different versions of these engines. The only versions I have seen are the hydro and mono version, but I've also heard about some with different internals as well. 2 of the engine have pistons and sleeves with bad scratches so if I want to use them I would have to get new ones of those and I would also have to get some different headers made with less angle on them as well. so any info on these engines would be great.

Hi Leo P90 were great engines in the 90's and these ones can work in your retro project if they still have compression. Unfortunetely Picco is out of business for marine engines .Gill

Yeah I used them back in the day till they went out of business but Ive never used the p90. I was hoping I might be able to find someone with a new set and I have also heard of someone that makes custom new ones for some engines we have a set made by him for some Mac 84s but I don't remember who it was or if he still does it. Are there and internal differences you know of worth mentioning?

With the scarcity of parts, you might be better off just picking up a couple more of the engines and using what you have for spares. I had a couple of P-90's and have kept an eye out for parts over the years. Look up Anders Martinelle, he had some P-90's for sale in the past and he might still have them. I found if you're patient you can find a used but not abused P-90 fairly reasonably priced.

The mono version that you have is a physically larger engine than the hydro engine, has a once piece crankcase vs. two piece for the hydro and uses a bolt on header vs. the slip on header on the Hydro engine. I never found anyone that made a lower angle header for the mono engine for use with outriggers. You'll have to fabricate up a custom header. Everyone says keep the nitro low for the stock steel rod, if you want to run above 25% you need to go with an RPM rod. They occasionally show up for sale.

In the end I found out I was better off just selling what I had and going with more modern engines that have available spare parts.

The rpm rod is the one without needle bearings correct? And the only other engine I was really interested in was the square head ops engines that were being built new again but I looked recently and could not find them

The rpm rod is aluminum with bronze bearing pressed in place. The factory rod is steel with loose steel roller bearings.

Charles Siler has a pretty large stockpile of square head OPS engines and parts, worth sending him a PM if you want to go that route.

So I just looked the rods in the engines and they are the normal needle bearing type so I guess now the question is should I go with the picco's or try and find a set of ops motors?

this gentleman makes EVERYTHING anatoly.karpov.948

this is a message he sent me last week

I must have order 10 sets. I make pistons for all motors 3.5cc -20$ 7.5cc-25$ 10cc-27$ 15cc -30$ 27cc-40$ 35cc-50$. Liners only preordered min.10 70 to 100$

So for a 90 motor he's charging $30 per piston and you have to buy 10. Then $70 to $100 for each liner and you have to buy 10 or is the 70 to 100 for 10 I doubted that is the case but just wondering?

ok ur reading it wrong

the pistons can be bought separately

the liners he has to make a larger run.

i talked to a few guys back in the day and this is how liners are made, thats why not many make them. they are cut from a long piece a few at a time and then cut into individual liners,,,apparently
