Just gauging the consensus with liner pinching on whether it works or not, limitations and experiences by those who have tried it.

Tim,

I have pinched my 21 N/R 7 times and it is still running great, I do not pinch a lot and use a dial indicator on a in # torque wrench, I have also pinched 45 engines with good results, If you need more info call me @ 256-779-6472

Tim,

There are a few guys that do piston and liner refitting on a CNC machine set up

here in the States. I am in the process of sending out some work to a couple of

shops that do this service. I will let you know how it all works out when I test them?

Mark,

I just sent a CMB 21 VAC piston and sleeve to a guy in Ohio that Geraghty told me about. He does the squeeze on a CNC machine for about $20. I got it back in a week and it is like new. Is running great, but still very tight at the top. Geraghty told me Zaker has been using this guy for years.

Here is the link:

Bob thanks for that post, cool site and service. Also I just got a new piston for my VAC 45 from Scott Bouchie, his work is something!!

Pinching using the method used by http://www.rayaracing.com works great.

It can't be done an unlimited times but once (maybe twice) will get you some extra life out of the piston/liner. I used it occasion racing 1/8 scale buggies.

Pinching using the clamp style is pretty useless since there is no way to guarantee the liner doesn't become oval. I've tried that too and yes, the piston/liner feels tight but the liner became oval.

Ive used Ray at RayAracing a few times. The motor that was in my sport 20 all year this year was pinched by him last year. Ran strong last year and all year this year. Pulled it out to put fresh bearings in it and it is still in good shape! I havent used OSRocketracing. But since they went to the CNC ive heard good results.

I want to know how they pinch a sleeve in a CNC machine? Or where they found a CNC machine that will just pinch sleeves?

Since CNC only means Computer Numerical Control it could technically be anything..... like a sledgehammer, vice, 10 ton weight or an I-beam dropped from some unknown height.

ll kidding aside I'd like to know too.

I use osrocketracing for my sleeves. Had 3 sleeves done with good results this summer. He can do up to 45 size sleeves. If you have them done get the light pinch.I had them checked on a cmm machine and they are with in 50 million out of round that is a 1/2 tenths out of around.

Maybe some one could tell me how U test the liner to piston fit,

after the liner has been squeezed please?

Dave, could U tell me how U check your "FIT" after reassembling your engine?

Thanks

I sent OS Rocket a sleeve from a Nova LS that had 7 years on it, it was just about dead. Steve Ball told me about John. I don't care how he does it ,it works. Came back nice and tight and took around 12-14 tanks of fuel to run in. Took it apart and the wear was perfect.
