Two new 8255's 1/8th scales.

1982 U8 Executone, all carbon fiber. CF plate radio box, interior rudder stiffener and strut brackets CF angle. 12lbs., 2 oz. dry.

1984 U40 Team Velocity. Fiberglass hull by Jeff Snell. CF cowling and wings by me. Jeff did most of the equipment set up on this one, built the bunks and did a really nice job on the paint on both boats/bunks.

All the graphics from Wesley Custom Graphics.

All PPG paint and white composite epoxy primer.

Ferrette 3rd Channel bases with OS Needle Valve Assembly

Excellent craftsmanship there Mike, wow, very nice.
Thanks Duck. I am looking forward to building the same Bardahl boat you have as a winter project . Using the ML Boatworks kit. Can't beat carbon fiber for weight and strength but it is just plain nasty to work with. I look like a bubble boy by the time I get the long sleeve shirt, gloves, respirator, goggles and hat to cut and sand the stuff. Be nice to make some wood chips again and I really want to just pour the scale on and I'm not concerned with winning races with it.

Good lookin boats Mike. Just picked up my new hull from Jeff this morning.
Thanks. I can help with the set up if you want. I have usually ended up shimming the turnfin bracket. Jeff swears by the curved fins but they don't agree with my driving style I guess. I just hate a twitchy boat or one that does something stupid when you turn left. Curved fins work but if they are even slightly get out of adjustment they can cause a lot of grief. The guys that use them successfully seem to get them set and then clamp the fin to the bracket and drill a pilot hole so they can stick a pin in the hole to quickly check or restore the alignment if they get knocked out of place. It's definitely worth the time to reverse the motor mounts and build transfer blocks to drop the motor down into the belly pan. Now that will definitely improve cornering.

I also would put a body post to keep the cowling from sliding forward if you stuff it. If you stuff, the cowling can slide forward over the bow block and break it. I use the RC car body posts mounted to a piece of CF or alum. angle. You can see them in the photos above. A lot of the stuffing issues can be eliminated by shortening and back cutting the rudder and cutting the bottom of the rudder into a V to lessen resistance when the boat drops back in the water that can tip the nose over. I think you asked me why I did that at a race last year.

Say what boat does the roundnose cowling mold in the picture go to? Lil Buzzard?.

wow! that's a really nice hull lay out. lot's of room and i really like the flywheel well pocket.good luck.
It will definitely spoil you not having everything crammed into a 4'-5" wide area. Easier to repair and maintain and easier to diagnose problems. I am a big believer in painting the inside white as it makes it easier to spot problems and find dropped fasteners and so on. I also like the inside of radio boxes white or light colored. The floor of the cf radio box has West with white pigment in it for visibility.

yes i know what you mean about 5 lbs of poop in a 2 lb sack. i run a Steve Muck hull and it was a Mother to get the radio box in the front of the hull and then run my steering servo to the back.but i won't complain, that hull has won a lot of races and will drive like a cadillac in most water and make left turns.good luck with your new boat and keep posting pics, mike.
