Spider, you dont measure strut depth in relation to the front sponsons. You measure in relation to the rear sponsons. If you explain what boat you have, what engine/pipe/prop, maybe someone more qualified will answer you with a good starting point. But strut depth is ultimately a variable unique to each boat, and each prop you throw on.

I found setup instructions for the roadrunner boats on the internet. I think I'll try that.

My way of thinking is C/L of strut the same depth as the bottom of front sponsons. I thinl I'll use this as a starting point. Don't know if it will work. Guess I'll see.

The center line of the Roadrunner is close to the bottom of the rear sponsons. Half above the bottom and half above. Many times the right rear one is 1/8" higher than the left to allow for less drag in thr turns.

The Crapshooter and similar designed boats run the bottom of the strut even with the bottom of the sponsons. The difference is about 1/4" between the two brands. Experiment with them to find out which one works best for your entire package.

Then front sponsons support the front of the boat, the strut is used to support the rear of the boat on a level surface, Set the boat hull so it is completely level to the table under the engine area by adjusting the strut up/down. Now you are ready to set he angle of attack on the fronts per RR inst sheet. then the next step is to install the Rears per RR inst. RR runs the bottom of the struts level with the rears But you must get the tub level so you know where to install the rears. it is the most important set up on the boat. if the rears are installed wrong everything else will be too.

Does this method also apply to scale hydros? If not, could someone shed light how to obtain a good working depth/angle please?
