Hello,

For a couple of years I've been looking to put together a zip kits JAE outboard outrigger and attempt a SAW record. My schedule hasn't permitted this sadly but it's looking like I might have some time this summer (fingers crossed). My question is what do you guys think is the best 3.5cc outboard motor for use on an outrigger looking for just top end speed? I've heard good things about the NR KEEP outboard as well as MAC and CMB and others. Also is their anyone here who has experience tuning and/or modifying these engines? As a novice I wouldn't mind sending the engine over and paying someone to work their magic on it

Thanks in advance!

I would talk to john otto at technology hobbies, he has been working on outboards for a long time, if he cant help you I am sure he will direct you to someone who can

LoL = Its hard to disagree, that a properly modded NR is a **** fine motor , Ron Shaw or Glenn Quarels can point you in the right direction-

that said Gene Mongar cuts CMB and OS / NR motors very well , and he does great work at a decent price.

Its all a matter of what motor you commit too and what your looking for out of said motor. SAWS will teach you many things- but a good motor and proper setup are the key foundation.

From there Marks props will complete your package- then plan on spending a TON of time refining whatever setup you choose.

Many factors go into a good SAWS setup- Pipes / pipe length / prop / setup , ect. oh yeah - luck

Good luck and keep us posted....................................

BTW- IF you can talk Martin into it - he seems to have one hell of a good handle on SAWS boats right now

Thanks for the replies! Is this the same Mark that runs the props4u website? I've heard good things about Salisbury pipes and Lawless outboard legs, so I figure I can't go wrong with those. Perhaps my expectations are a bit unrealistic being a novice but I figure with some guidance I can at least learn a lot and really enter into the sport
