Well, It has been 6 long years since I built or raced boats. There were many reasons for my hiatus from the hobby that I don't want to bore you with. I can say one thing, especially to those of you who know me. I really missed being away from the hobby and this forum. If you don't know me, I used to be the kind of builder that would have something new on the work bench just about every month. Some of my boats were good, and some of them were crap. I don't think I will be going quite as crazy as I used to, but I will be contributing to the forum regularly now. I'm looking forward to catching up with all the new fangled things going on in the RC boat world.

Tom Moorehouse started it, and I caught the fever. .12 riggers have been my passion ever since. My new .12 tub is 24.8 inches long, and 2.7 inches wide. I will be using an OS .12XZ. Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Marty

Great to see ya back Marty! That 12 tub is too wide. My new .21 tub is only 2.25" wide.

Just kidding...... well it really is only 2" wide inside width. :)

Welcome back!!! I can't waite for my .12 to be done!!!!! Only problem I see is getting addicted to it's speed, low fuel consumption, and not running my other boats!!!!

Hey Tim! Summer's windin' down for you, isn't it. Nice to see you again. You too, Shawdaddy! Are you still runnin' your HH12?

Tom! You were always a hard one to one up on :D . It's nice to be back.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this thread, I'm planning on using an OS 12XZ. I know it is kind of a replacement for the TR-5-PT that I used to love using. I remember cutting of the pilot shaft, and using a OS RX-M flywheel. I can't remember, but I think I had to do some milling on the collet and the flywheel. What is everyone doing these days. Are there parts available that don't have to be milled?

Hammer

Yes there are Martin, search zippkits. They have the flywheel and collet set up you are looking for,.. cheap too!

Thanks!

I checked them out. I can see where the collet is turned down. Just like I used to do it.

Marty, I passed the original HH off to a new boater up in NY. I do have a new .12 boat ready to run as soon as I get some time off from work. Ryon

Got the tank ordered from Walt. I'm kind of stuck on the tub until I get it. I've been working on the sponsons. I'm going to leave the sides at 90 degrees. What are you all using for a rudder servo. I can't remember what I used to use. I'm kinda particular to futaba. Any ideas would be appreciated. Hey Ryon! It's good to hear the original is still being used. I see you have a .12 JAE in your collection. I was really tempted to get one. If this boat I'm working on right now is a dud, then maybe I will try it next. I will have all the parts anyway.

I was at the local hobby shop getting some stuff. I was just taking a look at what they had for .12 engines and way back in the corner collecting dust, I found a couple of these gems. The guy sold me one for $89 dollars, so I guess I will be buying an OS.12XZ (that I was planning on putting in this boat) for $279.00 for my next boat.

As far as the Rigger, I have the sponsons done, and the booms set. Just waiting for Walt to finish my tank so I can skin the bottom of the tub. I will post some pics later this evening.

Have any of you .12 enthusiasts done anything with water cooling? I ordered the Zipkit rudder assembly for this rigger. It has a water pick-up. Just wondering. Haven't really figured out what I'm going to do with it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've never tried water cooling one of these little buggers, but I can sense some issues with them getting too cool using water. Thanks for the input Tim.

Here are some pictures of how it looks with the sponsons on it.

Marty, things in the wonderful world of .12 powered boats have changed a LOT since the last time you were in here on a regular basis. Tom's got a little side site called www.12hydros.com , too bad that it's not used enough.

The O.S. .12 that you have there was a dud in cars and trucks so that's why you got a deal on it. Seriously, buy yourself a Nova Rossi .12 and you won't be disappointed plus no cutting on the crank needed. NR dealer Glenn Quarles also has a killer little pipe for it called the Texan 12. Glenn sells them water-cooled but he did have an air-cooled head made, I've got one of them. Plumbing up water-cooling in a small boat can be a hassle.

Tell Hammermom that the guys said Hi.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will stick with the air cooling. That's some info about the O.S that I bought that I'm not familiar with, Ron. I have used these before with relatively good performance. I replaced the slide valve carb with a 10M drum carb. I've also used the NR 5 port. Of course the NR was a lot better, but right now I'm just trying to get back in the water without goin' broke. I used to chop about 1.5 mm off the diameter of a S215 and kick it in about 2mm with a Texas cut. What are people using for props right now? Keep into consideration the engine I'm using when giving suggestions. How are the Zippkit props?

The prop that you'd need from Zippkits isn't bad and for the price is worth a try.

BTW, I still have a small pile of 3/16" carbon fiber rod if you need any for the sponson booms.

Hey Ron! Hammermom says, "Hi!" She is 70 going on 19.

I think I'm going to try Zippkits 438 for starters. One more thing; how much do the NRs go for? I have a whole pile of different sizes of carbon pipe and rod that I have had for years. I think they will bury me with what's left over. Thanks for the offer, though.
